Controls and extinguishesaircraft,structureand other fires to protect people,resourcesand the environment.Drives andoperatesa range of fire fighting vehicles and equipment.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nResponsible formaintaininga safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nComplies withall Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.\n\nProvides Fire/EMS/Crash Fire (ARFF)/hazardous materials emergency response.\n\nIs responsible forimplementing USAP Fire Prevention Plan and ensuring that emergency response equipment is operational within the guidelines stipulated by this plan and the Disaster Preparedness Plan for theparticular Antarcticsite/station\n\nImplements as assigned the fire prevention programs for that conform to the United States Antarctic Program, including the operation of contract locations in Antarctica.\n\nEnsures that equipment is operational and able to function within the Fire Prevention and Disaster Preparedness Program for McMurdo Station.\n\nEnsures that emergency equipment under the control of the fire department is operational and in a state of readiness.\n\nResponds to emergencies,disastersand hazardous material spills according to the responsibilitiesidentifiedin the Disaster Preparedness Plan for McMurdo Station.\n\nInteracts with National Science Foundation,militaryand other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner.\n\nHandles confidential matters (management reports, etc.)in accordance withmanagement policy.\n\nPerform duties in support of Operations Division metrics (as provided by supervisor).\n\nSupport the achievement of metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities.\n\nWork to achieve goals and contractual commitments.\n\nParticipates in ongoing training as necessary to remain current on EH&S standards, OSHA requirements, as well as Fire, EMS, and Hazmat.\n\nPerformsadditionalduties as assigned by the Lieutenants for Captains.\n\nRequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nHigh School diploma orGED\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Firefighter II.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Airport Fire Fighter.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level.\n\nCPRCertification.\n\nNational Incident Management System (NIMS):ICS 100 and 200.\n\nTwoyearspreviousfull timefirefighting experience, volunteer experience or paid on-call time.\n\nExpectedSkills and Competencies:\nPhysical activities to includelifting upto the safety regulation maximum, climbing,crawlingand dragging hose. Duties will be performed indoors and outdoors, and work may be performed in a variety of weather conditions includingsevere cold, wind, and limited visibility.\n\nPreferred:\nAssociate of Science degree in Fire Science.\n\nEMT-B orhigher\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Driver Operator Pumper/Mobile Water Supply.\n\nIFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State CertifiedDriver Operator ARFF.\n\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\n\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\n\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\n\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\n\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\n\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\n\nMustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.\n\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\n\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization.
