Our commitments are underpinned by the belief that safety,collaborationand well-being are integral to success.\nSummary:\nThe Mechanical Equipment Center (MEC) Shop Forman isLead a team of technicians in a small,fast-pacedshop in Antarctica. Develop daily tasking, setgoalsand reviewworkflowof team.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nIn summer, responsible for day-to-day shop operations. In winter, responsible for the operation and supervision of the winter-over operations of the MEC.\n\nResponsible for the maintenance and repair of, but not limited to, snowmobiles, ATVs, and/or maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel generators, up to 100kw in size, and portable gasoline and diesel heaters, ice drills, chainsaws, and other small equipment.\n\nMay berequiredto perform TDY in the Denver headquarters office in preparation for upcoming field seasons.\n\nProvides direct supervision of maintenance and operations activities on all winter-over activities within the MEC. Provides direction to floor mechanics on a day-to-day basis during the Austral summer while working under the Supervisor MEC.\n\nProvides direct supervision of all MEC mechanics, in the absence of the Supervisor of MEC, including the handling of personnel issues.\n\nAssigns tasks, coordinates the flow of work, and inspects the quality of workmanship on equipment.\n\nSupervises the work of all mechanics, skilled workers and helpers engaged in the repair and upkeep of MEC Science Support equipment.\n\nEnsures work request priorities arecomplied with.\n\nMonitors all in-progress work to ensure quality,timelycompletionand control of material.\n\nDocuments work order progress.\n\nPrepares andsubmitsreports on the progress of all new and on-going work projects.\n\nGenerates and approves requisitions for supplies and equipment.\n\nHandles confidential matters (personnelactions, managementreports, etc.)in accordance withmanagement policy.\n\nPerforms duties in support of ASC metrics. Trains and orients subordinate employees on performance, documentation and activities that effect the achievement of ASC metrics.\n\nSupports the achievement of metrics, whether metrics can be directly or indirectly affected by this position's activities.\n\nProvides direct support, using staffresources,if necessary, to the achievement of all metrics related to program.\n\nComplies withall Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.\n\nEnsures that all subordinate employees are trained in, and understand Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.\n\nMaintains documentation as necessary to meet these requirements.\n\nPerforms maintenance, diagnosis and repair of generators and small equipment. Performs diagnosis and repair of snowmobiles, ATVs.\n\nPerforms rebuilds on engines, drivetrainsor components of equipment.\n\nProvides training for personnel on the safe use of the above equipment.\n\nProvides training in operation and field maintenance to grantees and support personnel.\n\nPerforms on-site work to equipment in field asrequired.\n\nProvides training as needed to mechanics.\n\nDocuments all work performed andmaintainspertinent records.\n\nAssesses suitability of equipment to grantee needs, designing and implementing modifications and custom fabrications asrequired.\n\nOperates andmaintainsshop equipment, including welders, compressors, presses, etc.\n\nMaintains adequate supply of spare parts and tools, in coordination with the materials person.\n\nEmployees and contractors may,in the course ofperforming their official duties, have access to a wide variety of personal identifiable and sensitive information (PII/SI) electronically and in hard copy. Personal and sensitive data including Social Security numbers, date and place of birth, demographic data, home addresses/telephone numbers/personal email addresses, passport numbers, bank account numbers, performance reviews, reviewer identity tied to performance reviews, unfunded proposals, proprietary parts of funded proposals, and other similar information should be protected according to Federal regulations and United States Antarctic Program policy, and only disclosed in accordance with theUnited States Antarcticprogram requirements.\n\nResponsible for implementing andmaintaininga safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nPerforms other duties asrequired.\n\nRequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nHigh School diploma orGED\n\nMinimum of five years of experience in equipment maintenance, withat leastthreeof thoseyearsat the supervisory level\n\nExpectedSkills and Competencies:\nComplies withapplicable safety, environment, health, and waste management policies and procedure.\n\nProficient usingMicrosoft OfficeWord; ability to accurately document changes to work orders and inventory on a computer-based system.\n\nPreferred:\nTraining at aTechnical school\n\nExperience with diesel, two and four stroke engines;maintainingsmall engines\n\nExperience with electrical power generation\n\nExperience rebuilding engines\n\nExperience rebuilding gear cases and drive trains\n\nAble to read and understand wiring schematics\n\nAble to teach end users how to use and fieldmaintainequipment\n\nUnderstanding of inventory management\n\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\n\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\n\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\n\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\n\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\n\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\n\nMustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.\n\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\n\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization.
