Coordinate with the Lead Power Plant Mechanic the regular maintenance and irregular maintenance of generators within the plant. Work closely with linemen and other infrastructure personnel to resolve issues. Participate in goal-setting processes and strategic planning for mission support with Lead Power Plant Mechanic. Contribute to a safe working environment byparticipatingin employee trainings and identification and mitigation of environmental and job hazards. Maintain effective communications between departments. Routinelyutilizeindependent judgment and discretion to solve problems andidentifypotential issues.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nMaintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nComplies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals,policiesand procedures. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legaldocumentation.\n\nProvides uninterrupted medium voltage electrical service whileoperatingto the highest standards.\n\nMonitors Power Plant parameters and makes necessary adjustments to ensure operations are within established guidelines.\n\nMonitors diesel engine/generators and associated switch gear parameters.\n\nMonitors waste heat recovery system, wind turbineproductionand auxiliary equipment parameters.\n\nMakes adjustments todiesel engine/generators and auxiliary systems toinsurePower Plant isoperatingwith the highest level of efficiency and reliability possible. Monitors andmakes adjustments topower distribution system by adding and removing feeders asrequired.\n\nMaintains operating logbooks and databases asrequired.\n\nStarts, places inserviceand secures dieselgeneratorsas necessary.\n\nMaintains identified operational hours spread of diesel engine/generators to better forecastmaintenance.\n\nResponds to unscheduled equipment failures withappropriate immediateandsubsequentactions while on shift.\n\nAssists the Power Plant Mechanic with scheduled maintenance and repairs.\n\nMaintains cleanliness of Power Plant facilities including diesel engines.\n\nAdvises theUtilities Supervisor or their on-ice representativeof the status of power production equipment and systems.\n\nWorks a rotating shift; day,swingor night shift\n\nTrains Power PlantOperator’son mechanical equipment as directed.\n\nComplies withapplicable Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.\n\nResponsible formaintaininga safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\n\nSupports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly affected by this position’s work activities.\n\nCommunicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they needin order tobe successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.\n\nMay berequiredto work outside on various jobsites in extremecold weatherand environmentally challenging conditions.\n\nInteracts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation,militaryand other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person. Is kind, courteous,cooperativeand professionalat all times.\n\nParticipate in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.\n\nPerforms other duties asrequired.\n\nRequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nHigh School diploma orGED\n\nMinimum 2 years Power Plant experiencerequired(Diesel, Gas Turbine, Nuclear, Hydroelectric or Renewable). Equivalent experience indiesel engine or electrical maintenance experienced accepted in lieu of Power Plant experience.\n\nExpectedSkills and Competencies:\nMechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once isrequired.\n\nWorking knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the operation of diesel electric generating equipment isrequired.\n\nThorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators isrequired.\n\nAbility tomaintaina professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment isrequired.\n\nMust be proficient in Microsoft Office.\n\nPreferred:\nHigh school graduate or GED\n\nPreviousexperience with remote Polar Logistics operations\n\nDiesel Power generation experience\n\nStrong background in diesel engine and electrical troubleshooting\n\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\n\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\n\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\n\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\n\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\n\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\n\nMustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives.\n\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\n\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization.
