We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.\nThe Opportunity\nAmentum is looking for a Radiation Protection Consultant to join our Radiation Protection & Characterisation team.\nThis is a consultancy role supporting a diverse portfolio of clients across industrial, research, healthcare and other sectors using ionising radiation. You will work closely with experienced Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), providing practical radiation protection support to clients while developing your own technical competence and experience.\nThe role will involve regular client interaction, site visits, radiation protection audits, preparation of technical documentation and delivery of radiation protection training.\nWe are looking for someone with practical radiation protection experience who is capable of developing strong client relationships and wants to progress towards certification as a Radiation Protection Adviser through RPA2000.\nYour Role\nAs a Radiation Protection Consultant, you will:\nSupport the delivery of radiation protection services to a diverse portfolio of clients.\nUndertake radiation protection audits, inspections and site visits under appropriate RPA oversight.\nIdentify areas of non-compliance, good practice and opportunities for improvement and produce clear recommendations for clients.\nSupport clients in the development and review of radiation risk assessments, Local Rules, procedures and contingency arrangements.\nProvide practical radiation protection support on matters including designated areas, engineering controls, monitoring arrangements and safe systems of work.\nProduce clear and technically robust reports following audits, assessments and client visits.\nDevelop and deliver radiation protection awareness and other radiation protection training to clients and colleagues.\nBuild effective working relationships with clients and act as a day-to-day point of contact for routine radiation protection matters.\nWork closely with certificated RPAs, escalating matters requiring formal RPA advice or specialist technical input as appropriate.\nSupport radiation monitoring activities and the selection and use of appropriate radiation monitoring instrumentation.\nMaintain accurate technical and project records.\nSupport the delivery and management of recurring client requirements, including audits, training and other scheduled radiation protection activities.\nContribute to tender and proposal activities and identify opportunities where Amentum can provide additional support to existing clients.\nWork towards RPA2000 certification, developing and maintaining the knowledge, experience and evidence required to demonstrate competence as an RPA.\nMaintain and develop your technical and professional competence through appropriate continuing professional development.\nAbout You\nTo be considered for this role, you will have practical experience in radiation protection, health physics or a closely related discipline.\nYou will also have:\nA relevant degree or equivalent technical qualification in a scientific, engineering or radiation protection discipline.\nA good working knowledge of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and associated guidance.\nAn understanding of the practical application of radiation protection principles.\nExperience working with radiation risk assessments, Local Rules or other radiation protection documentation.\nStrong technical report writing skills.\nGood communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage directly with clients and stakeholders.\nThe ability to explain technical and regulatory requirements clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nThe ability to work independently within defined areas of competence while recognising when advice or escalation to a certificated RPA is required.\nGood organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple client requirements, and deliver work to agreed timescales.\nA willingness to travel regularly to client sites across the UK.\nEligibility to work in the UK and the ability to achieve the appropriate level of security clearance for our projects.\nA full UK driving licence is required due to the client-facing and site-based nature of the role.\nProfessional Development\nYou do not need to hold an RPA2000 Certificate of Competence when joining us.\nHowever, we are looking for someone who intends to develop towards certification as a Radiation Protection Adviser.\nYou will work alongside experienced and certificated RPAs, gaining practical experience across a varied client portfolio and developing the evidence and competence required to support progression towards RPA2000 certification.\nWe would therefore particularly welcome candidates who are already working towards RPA2000 certification or who are ready to begin that process.\nDesirable Experience\nExperience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:\nUndertaking radiation protection audits or compliance assessments.\nWorking directly with organisations using ionising radiation.\nDeveloping or reviewing Local Rules and radiation risk assessments.\nDelivering radiation protection or radiation awareness training.\nRadiation monitoring and instrumentation.\nSealed and unsealed radioactive sources.\nX-ray generators and other radiation-generating equipment.\nRadioactive waste management.\nEnvironmental permitting and radioactive substances regulation.\nRadioactive materials transport and Class 7 requirements.\nWorking with Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPSs) and other client personnel responsible for local radiation protection arrangements.\nSupporting multiple clients within a consultancy environment.\nWorking towards RPA2000 certification or maintaining an RPA2000 portfolio.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nTechnical knowledge is important, but this role is equally about working effectively with clients.\nYou will be comfortable visiting client sites, speaking with operators and managers, delivering training and translating radiation protection legislation and technical requirements into practical advice that clients can understand and implement.\nYou will be expected to take increasing ownership of client activities as your experience and competence develop, while working within Amentum's established radiation protection arrangements and seeking support from certificated RPAs where required.\nThis is an opportunity to develop within an established radiation protection capability, gain experience across a varied client portfolio and build towards
