This is a part time opportunity (0.5)\nThe Senior Decommissioning Project Management Assistant is an on-site project management and technical support role providing assistance to JRC decommissioning project managers at the JRC Geel site, as part of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Decommissioning & Waste Management (D&WM) Programme under the CELER framework contract.\nThe role supports the planning, execution and monitoring of decommissioning projects to help ensure delivery to schedule and budget. It combines day-to-day coordination, communication, documentation and logistical management with technical support for decommissioning activities, serving as a link between project managers, team members, stakeholders, contractors and on-site technical staff.\nThe assignment is a 0.5 FTE Senior on-site resource.\nKey Responsibilities\nDecommissioning project delivery and technical support\nManage a defined subset of a decommissioning project, such as a particular phase or deliverable, under the direction of the JRC project manager.\nIdentify strategies for execution of pre-decommissioning and decommissioning activities and harmonise them with existing JRC D&WM methodologies.\nContribute to project-management and technical tasks concerning decommissioning of nuclear laboratories in Buildings 010 and 090 at JRC Geel.\nCoordinate with on-site technical staff to support compliance with project safety and quality standards.\nProvide field and operational support to decommissioning activities as required.\nProject planning, controls and coordination\nAssist with project planning and the coordination of project activities.\nMonitor project performance, update and report schedule progress, and track budgets.\nIdentify resource requirements, gaps, potential risks and delays to support proactive mitigation.\nSet up and facilitate meetings, site visits and project workshops, including preparation of agendas and coordination of team activities.\nMonitor utilisation of personnel, equipment and materials to support efficient project delivery.\nTechnical, quality and project documentation\nPrepare and review technical and QA/QC documentation relevant to decommissioning activities.\nOrganise documents, update databases and maintain comprehensive project files.\nDraft meeting minutes, status reports and presentation materials for management or steering committees.\nManage information within the JRC archival ecosystem to support data integrity, accessibility, high-fidelity indexing, long-term trend analysis and compliance with nuclear-industry records-management standards.\nCollect, organise, process, analyse and interpret project and technical data and information.\nStakeholder, contractor and operational coordination\nAct as a point of contact for project managers, stakeholders, contractors and team members within the assigned scope.\nSupport procurement activities, including review of supplier contracts and management of deliveries.\nCommunicate project requirements, progress, risks and actions effectively across multidisciplinary teams.\nUndertake other routine, standardised or low-risk project management duties appropriate to the role.\nRequirements\nEffective verbal and written communication skills for multidisciplinary team collaboration.\nGood understanding of project management principles and their application to technical project delivery.\nBroad knowledge and experience of nuclear decommissioning methods, practices, technologies and equipment.\nGood working knowledge of legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and standards relating to decommissioning and radioactive waste management.\nUnderstanding of the challenges associated with handling nuclear materials and radioactive waste.\nProficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.\nAbility to identify risks, troubleshoot issues and adapt to changing project conditions.\nStrong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and sound decision-making ability.\nAbility to prepare and review clear technical, QA/QC and project-management documentation.\nExperience & Qualifications\nMore than 12 years of relevant professional experience consistent with a Senior profile, including substantial experience in nuclear decommissioning and/or technically complex nuclear projects.\nPractical experience delivering or supporting decommissioning projects, including project planning, coordination, progress monitoring, technical support and field activities.\nAppropriate training and qualifications to perform the required project-management and decommissioning support tasks in a nuclear environment.\nAbility to work on site at JRC Geel and, where required by the role, within controlled or supervised areas as an exposed worker.\nOur Culture\nOur values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual.
