This position reports directly to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering.\nAll safety policies and procedures must be followed.\nResponsibilities\nIndependent preparation of requirements, computation/analyses, specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and technical reports for Process System designs. Selects and applies engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity. Projects are A/E multi-discipline.\nOversight of the activities of designers and drafters engaged in the design of NASA facility mechanical systems, to ensure the designs conform to recognized codes and standards and with customer requirements for a variety of government and industrial facility types.\nProvide technical quality reviews and ensure adherence to Quality Control processes, Codes and Standards, ultimately resulting in the Highest Quality deliverables to NASA Langley.\nProvide integrity and teambuilding which will encourage employee engagement and maintain a high morale.\nQualifications\nUS Citizenship required.\nAn ABET accredited bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering is required. Four year mechanical engineering technology degree does not comply. The candidate must have a minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of direct experience, with core skills in process engineering design.\nDirect design experience must include Process Systems for high pressure air and high pressure steam. Experience with the following is necessary:\nP&ID development\nFlexibility analysis\nPressure drop calculations (incompressible and compressible flow)\nRelief valves (placement, inlet/outlet piping, performance, selection)\nControl valves\nHeat exchangers\nPumps\nSteam and condensate systems\nASME B31.1 Power Piping\nASME B31.3 Process Piping\nCertified material test reports\nCandidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a team player and communicate effectively both orally and written. Is proactive, has a problem-solving attitude and effective team management skills.\nProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nProficient in Bentley AutoPipe, RS Means Costworks\nEssential Functions\nWork Environment:\nOffice environment. (80%)\nFacilities and active construction site environment. (20%)\nTravel between office and various facilities within the NASA center is required.\nPhysical Requirements:\nLimited time spent on active construction sites. Must be physically capable of walking and climbing over rough terrain and working at elevated heights and confined spaces (20%). Construction sites are commonly areas of high noise levels due to construction equipment and facility test operations (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.
