We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer who combines meticulous technical discipline with strategic foresight. To excel, you must possess a proactive learning mindset and the agility to rapidly master and govern the integration of next-generation systems and services.\nWork Schedule: 8 Hours per day, Monday thru Friday\nEssential Responsibilities:\nThe duties and responsibilities of the Senior Technical Writer include but are not limited to the following:\nThe Senior Technical Writer plans, develops, and maintains technical documentation that supports mission systems, analytic tools, and intelligence production workflows. The incumbent turns complex technical and operational information into clear, accurate, and accessible content for analysts, operators, engineers, program managers, and senior leadership. The role also sets documentation standards, leads documentation strategy for major programs, and coordinates across classification domains, so the incumbent must be skilled at handling sensitive information and at working with multiple stakeholders.\nKey Responsibilities:\nResearch, write, and edit technical documents such as system design documents, user guides, standard operating procedures, concept of operations, interface control documents, training materials, and release notes. \nInterview subject matter experts, engineers, and analysts to gather technical details, then synthesize them into content tailored to each audience's technical level and mission need. \nProduce documentation for software, data platforms, analytic tools, collection and processing systems, and cloud and enterprise IT environments. \nDocument accreditation and compliance artifacts, such as system security plans and configuration management documentation, in coordination with information assurance staff. \nEstablish and maintain style guides, templates, and documentation standards consistent with agency, IC, and applicable federal requirements (e.g., ICD 206 sourcing conventions where relevant, plain language guidance, Section 508 accessibility). \nDefine documentation strategy and lifecycle management for assigned programs, including version control, review cycles, and archival. \nImplement and refine docs-as-code or structured authoring workflows where appropriate. \nLead document reviews with technical, security, legal, and program stakeholders, resolving conflicting input and keeping documents accurate through system changes. \nCoordinate with classification and security officers to ensure content is properly marked, portion-marked, and handled, and to support derivative classification and sanitization or downgrade of content as needed. \nSupport the preparation of briefings, white papers, and executive summaries for senior leadership. \nMentor and provide guidance to junior writers and editors. \nPerform peer review and quality control on documentation produced by team members and contractors. \nContribute to proposals, program reviews, and agile ceremonies; perform other duties as assigned. \nWork Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:\nEmployee will work in a SCIF on a daily basis.\nEmployee may also be required to work in a datacenter environment for specified periods of time.\nMinimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):\nDemonstrated experience writing for complex technical systems in a government, defense, or intelligence environment. \nStrong command of grammar, structure, and editing, with a portfolio or work history showing clear, accurate technical content. \nWorking knowledge of classification marking, handling, and dissemination controls. \nExperienced in organizing large documentation sets and managing concurrent assignments, reviews, schedules, and releases.\nAbility to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and ask the right questions of SMEs. \nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines. \nExperience in agile or DevSecOps environments and documenting CI/CD-delivered systems. \nFamiliarity with structured authoring or docs-as-code tools (e.g., Markdown, DITA, Git, Confluence, Madcap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker). \nExperience with RMF/ATO documentation and NIST 800-53 controls. \nExperience with Section 508 compliance and graphics or diagram tools (Visio, Adobe Illustrator). \nTranslating technical complexity for both expert and non-technical audiences \nInformation architecture and content strategy \nAttention to detail and ownership of document accuracy \nCollaboration across engineering, analytic, and security communities \nSound judgment in handling sensitive and compartmented information \nLeadership by example and the ability to influence without formal authority\nExperience working in accredited, access-controlled environments. \nSecurity Clearance Required:\nMust have active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility\nMinimum Education:\nBachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field, plus at least [8-10] years of relevant technical writing experience. Additional experience may substitute for education or equivalent professional experience (typically 4 additional years in lieu of degree). \nMinimum Years of Experience:\nEight+ years of progressive experience in Technical Writing, document creation or service management supporting one or more Intelligence Community agencies or national security organizations. \nAs part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, Amentum is a drug-free workplace and requires all personnel to comply with company drug and alcohol policies as a condition of employment.
