The position supports the development and maintenance of the Training Systems (TS) applications supporting the Orion Simulation Framework systems within the facility.\nDescription of Duties\nThis position provides software engineering support to the Training Systems (TS) Facility at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center (JSC) located in Houston, Texas. The software engineer will be responsible for the software development and maintenance of the real-time Orion Simulation Framework systems in the TS facility. This position includes Agile software methodology using engineering and computer programming skills primarily in C++. The software engineer will be required to perform the software development, maintenance, and integration of the Space Launch System, Orion flight software, and Orion simulation in the TS simulation. The applicant will also be responsible for providing technical support in the analysis and resolution of software-related problems. The applicant will be responsible for supporting critical software systems in the Orion simulation software. The applicant will work with the users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts and flight-training readiness associated with Orion simulations. The applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills required.\nSuccessful candidates will:\nDevelop, maintain, troubleshoot software supporting the NASA JSC Training Systems.\nSupport the development and maintenance of the Orion Simulation Framework systems.\nSupport the design, development, and integration of the Orion systems and associated software interfaces.\nDevelop and maintain software using computer programming and experience in C++ in a Linux or UNIX environment.\nPerform software builds and integrate software with other developers.\nTroubleshoot software, builds, configuration, and integration issues.\nSupport software testing and verification activities with external partners.\nParticipate in Agile/Scrum development activities, including Sprint planning and reviews.\nWork effectively with developers, system engineers, test personnel, technical leads, and other project stakeholders.\nParticipate in code reviews and follow established software development processes and procedures.\nDocument software changes, technical issues, test results, and procedures.\nAssist with the integration between training, simulation, and external vendors.\nPossess good oral and written communication skills and work effectively and coordinate actions with both internal and external customers.\nJob Requirements\nMust have the following education and experience: B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree;\nMust be able to obtain a NASA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Badge for NASA credentials\nDesired Requirements\nPrior experience with the Mission Training Center and Training Systems is a plus.\nExperience in Python programming and GitLab Configuration Management systems.\nFamiliarity with the NASA JSC Trick simulation framework.\nExperience with Agile development methods.\nThis position is expected to pay $77k - $102k annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.\nAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, age, marital status, pregnancy, genetic information, or other legally protected status.\nFinal compensation is determined through a comprehensive evaluation of several key factors, including the candidate’s educational background, specialized technical expertise, and relevant professional experience.
