This position reports to a Supervisory Paralegal, or Project Manager.\nPosition Description:\nWorks under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of simple memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.\nResponsibilities/Duties.\nPerforms detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches \nComposes written documents in a concise and logical manner, \nProofreads and edits written documents \nReviews audio files for relevance and update databases with findings\nPrepares witnesses, exhibits and other evidence binders\nReceives and track discovery items\nCommunicates with other DOJ components, Federal agencies and others as required during investigations and litigation \nCompiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents\nSummarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery)\nPerform trial preparation tasks to include copying, document review, document organization, bates stamping, legal research and searching documents in Concordance/Summation \nDuring trial, assist with documents and indexes, tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions \nUtilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Oncue, to support investigations\nPerforms detailed reviews and analysis of case materials, which includes financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files\nPerforms detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches \nProofreads and edits written documents \nReviews audio files for relevance and update databases with findings;\nPrepares witnesses, exhibits and other evidence binders\nReceives and track discovery items\nUtilizes electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Oncue, to support investigations\nSearches the Relativity database per criteria developed by case team management\nReviews search result sets for relevance based on written criteria\nResponds to citizen and congressional correspondence;\nResponds to citizen phone calls\nUtilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Sanction, to support investigations\nRequired to travel up to 50% of the time to aid with trial preparation\nQualifications.\nRequires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted \nAdditionally, at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.\nMust have experience handling financial crimes/non-compliance cases.\nRequires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. \nRequires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. \nMust have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. \nRole also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. \nAbility to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important. \nMust be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.\n*Employees will earn H&W dollars per eligible hour (including vacation and holiday up to 40 hours/week). H&W monies are used to offset the employer’s cost of benefits the employee elects into and/or utilizes.
