Our commitments are underpinned by the belief that safety, collaboration and well-being are integral to success.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nResponsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.\nDirects the activities necessary to maintain and repair light vehicle and heavy equipment assets of the United States Antarctic Program.\nSets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed; maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations.\nReviews and analyzes work accomplishments, cost, and utilization of subordinates to evaluate work progress, control costs, and anticipate and avoid possible problems by recommending corrective action to upper-level management personnel.\nEnsures all employees are trained for the specific task assigned.\nManages budget and remains within parameters.\nPosition supervises the work of all mechanics, skilled and unskilled labor engaged in the repair and upkeep of USAP Capital Equipment.\nResponsible for the maintenance and repair of all assets\nMaintains vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and industry standards.\nDetermines annual re-supply requirements and ensures all requisitions are submitted in accordance with schedules, guidelines and policies in order to meet shipping deadlines for annual supply vessel delivery.\nPosition monitors all work in-progress to ensure quality, timely completion and control of material.\nIncumbent provides labor and material support to USAP field camps and other stations as directed.\nPerforms follow up inspections as required on equipment.\nDocuments work order progress, maintains records of shop activities and prepares and submits reports as requested.\nIncumbent handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management guidelines and policies.\nVMF Supervisor will perform duties in support of Operations Division metrics and will provide training and orientation for subordinate employees on performance, documentation and activities that affect the achievement Operations Division metrics.\nAdequately, accurately and honestly track all data related to metrics.\nSupports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics can be directly or indirectly affected by this position's activities.\nComplies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals and provide documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.\nPerforms other duties as required. \nRequired Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:\nBachelor’s degree required. An additional four years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree. \nMinimum of six years’ experience in vehicle maintenance with an additional three years of experience at the supervisory level\nExpected Skills and Competencies:\nRequires knowledge of mechanical theory applying to commercial and special purpose design vehicles and equipment, using lubricants and tools, methods of hoisting an handling heavy mechanisms, internal combustion engines and electrical and hydraulics systems.\nMust possess critical problem solving and decision-making ability.\nMust be detail oriented and able to shift focus with changing priorities. \nMust have ability to multitask and work with frequent interruptions. \nRequires excellent written and verbal communication skills.\nPreferred:\nTwo years training at a technical school\nExperience with fleet maintenance and/or fleet management experience\nPrevious experience with remote polar operations.\nExperience with Fuel Master (or equivalent fuel management software)\nMust be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)\nExperience with an asset management and electronic corrective maintenance program (Maximo preferred).\nPhysical and/or Other Requirements:\nWillingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods\nSuccessful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica\nSuccessful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer\nSuccessful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF\nMust be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.\nMust be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.\nMust participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.\nValid Driver’s License issued in the United States\nNo clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
