This role provides leadership and oversight for project engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, reliably, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with corporate growth and generation strategies.The Director leads a team of Project Engineers responsible for supporting utility-scale renewable generation projects, acquisition integration activities, and complex capital investments across the company's generation portfolio.\nJob Description\nWhat You'll Do:\nEssential Job Functions & Tasks\nProject Portfolio Leadership\nProvide strategic leadership and oversight for a portfolio of renewable generation projects, battery energy storage systems, generation asset acquisitions, environmental compliance projects, and major capital improvements at existing generating facilities. \nProvide strategic direction and oversight for engineering activities from project development through commissioning and commercial operation. \nEnsure alignment of engineering resources with business priorities, project schedules, and capital investment objectives. \nPartner with Generation, Commercial Operations, Regulatory, Environmental, Supply Chain, Finance, and Project Management organizations to successfully execute strategic capital programs. \nEstablish and maintain engineering governance, standards, and project execution processes that promote consistency, quality, and accountability. \nOrganizational Leadership\nEstablish workforce planning, succession management, and employee development strategies that build organizational capability and technical expertise.\nFoster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.\nProvide leadership and executive support to resolve significant project issues, technical challenges, and strategic initiatives.\nPromote cross-functional collaboration and effective stakeholder engagement across the enterprise.\nMeasures of Success\nSafe execution of all engineering activities and projects.\nSuccessful delivery of renewable generation, acquisition integration, and major capital projects within approved scope, schedule, budget, and key milestone targets.\nImproved reliability, standardization, performance, and long-term value of generation assets.\nEffective integration of newly acquired generation facilities into the operating fleet.\nOnboarding, development, and retention of a high-performing project engineering organization.\nConsistent application of engineering standards, governance, and project execution best practices.\nAchievement of strategic business objectives supporting the company's generation growth and asset optimization strategies.\nAchievement of high levels of business partner and stakeholder satisfaction.\nWhat We're Looking For:\nEducation requirements are listed below:\nBachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).\nRegistration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state is required.\nWork Experience requirement listed below:\nRequires a minimum of twelve years of experience in utility engineering work which must include 5 years of direct supervision/ management of engineering resources.\nMaintains safety as the highest priority and demonstrates behaviors that support zero harm both at work and at home.\nDemonstrates the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.\nDemonstrates leadership ability to effectively organize, direct, and coordinate the work of other personnel.\nDemonstrates ability to communicate effectively and present ideas clearly both orally and in writing, including making presentations and recommendations to senior management and external audiences.\nExhibits strong teamwork skills which include collaboration.\nDemonstrates strategic risk-assessment, customer focus and business awareness to support technical decision making.\nFocuses on continuous improvement and employee development.\nStrong planning and organizational skills required.\nWhat you’ll get:\nIn addition to a competitive compensation, AEP offers a unique comprehensive benefits package that aims to support and enhance the overall well-being of our employees.\nWhere Putting the Customer First Powers Everything We Do!\nAt AEP, we’re more than just an energy company - we’re a team of dedicated professionals committed to delivering safe, reliable, and innovative energy solutions.
