Senior Software Engineer - Backend

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Backend Engineering and Feature Ownership:

• You independently design, build, and ship complete backend features from low-level data models and APIs to production deployment.
• You take full ownership of your deliverables, ensuring correctness, performance, and reliability under real-world load.

System Design and Architecture:

• You own Statement of Work (SoW) adherence, tracking milestones and deliverables for all vendor agreements.
• You manage change requests and ensure vendor accountability through structured governance.

Code Quality and Engineering Standards:

• You write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code that upholds the team's engineering standards.
• You actively participate in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback o continuously raise the quality bar.

Performance and Reliability:

• You identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query optimisation, caching strategies, and efficient API design.
• You contribute to incident response, post-mortems, and preventive improvements to keep systems stable and fast.

Mentorship and Cross-team Collaboration:

• You guide and upskill SDE 1 engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design walkthroughs.
• You collaborate effectively with product managers, frontend engineers, and QA to deliver cohesive, well-tested features.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4-6+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience in a product-based company or fast-growing startup.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language Java, Python, Go, or Node.js and comfort working across the stack when needed.
• Some experience in Python is required.
• Solid understanding of system design principles: RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and database design.
• Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases; ability to write and optimise complex queries.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to own features end-to-end, work independently, and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
