This roleappliesadvanced technicalexpertise, sound judgment, and market awareness to assess risk quality, determineappropriate coverageterms and pricing, and drive disciplined growth within an assigned portfolio. The Senior Underwriter serves as a trusted resource to agents and internal partners, provides guidance on unusual or higher-hazard accounts, and supports underwriting consistency through mentoring, collaboration, and adherence to regulatory and company standards.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\nReview and assess new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations across applicable commercial lines of business.\n\nApplyappropriate classifications, coverage forms, endorsements, deductibles, and limits based on exposure analysis\n\nEnsure policy terms, conditions, and pricingcomplieswithfiled rates, rules, state regulations, and company standards.\n\nDocument underwriting decisions clearly and thoroughly in underwriting systems.\n\nMaintain accuracy and quality of policy documentation and underwriting records.\n\nNegotiate terms and conditions within authority to balance profitability and competitive positioning.\n\nBuild andmaintaineffective working relationships with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders.\n\nManage andmonitorassignedbook ofbusiness to support profitability, growth, and retention goals.\n\nHandles co-signs/referrals andmentorsnew underwriters.\n\nAssesses alternative ways to make a risk acceptable independently and will often mentor other UW levels on advanced or complex risks.\n\nServes as the underwriting representative for assigned territory.\n\nEducates, coaches, andtrainsagents on underwriting procedures, philosophy, and new products.\n\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nAssociate or bachelor'sdegree preferred but not required. Equivalent experience considered in place of collegiate studies.\n\nSix to eight years of underwriting experience, or equivalent P&C industry and/or Farming or Commercial industry knowledge.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain underwriting decisions clearly.\n\nSound judgment and problem-solving abilities.\n\nAdditional Qualifications:\n\nExperience mentoring orcoachingless experienced underwriters.\n\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nStrong knowledge of commercialcoverages, policy forms, endorsements, and ratingmethodology.\n\nFamiliarity with ISO forms, classifications, and state-specific rules and regulations.\n\nAbility toidentifycoverage gaps, emerging risks, and portfolio trends.\n\nIndustry designations, such as AINS, AU, or CPCU.\n\nOCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:\nThe position requiresthe abilityto effectively communicate with others to exchange information.\n\nA person in this positionestablishesmethods and procedures forattainingspecific goals andobjectivesandreceives guidance in terms of broad goals. Only thefinal resultsof work are typically reviewed.\n\nThe position requires physical presence inthe companyoffice on a full-time basis.\nDepending on the qualifications of the candidate, this role may be filled at a lower level.\nThe base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will becommensuratewith candidate experience.
