With a deep and broad pipeline of potential new medicines, Amgen remains committed to advancing science to dramatically improve people’s lives.\nAmgen Dun Laoghaire (ADL) is a 37,000 square metre aseptic drug product operations facility, currently undergoing expansion, specialising in secondary manufacturing activities - Formulation, Vial/Syringe Filling, Lyophilisation and Packaging. The ADL site also includes laboratories and cold chain warehouse capabilities. There is a strong culture of continuous improvement and innovation within ADL to strive for solutions that improve health outcomes and dramatically improve people’s lives. Amgen is developing the capability to produce all of its medicines in Dun Laoghaire, helping to ensure continuity of supply of our medicines as we expand internationally.\nThe Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, availability, and maintainability of plant equipment within the ADL manufacturing facility. The role focuses on developing and sustaining a robust reliability framework that ensures right-first-time maintenance execution, minimises unplanned downtime, and optimises asset lifecycle performance in support of safe, compliant, and efficient operations.\nThe role partners closely with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to analyse equipment performance, identify failure modes, and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. The Maintenance Reliability Engineer also leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce non-commercial time, improve equipment uptime, and increase overall plant availability.\nKey Duties and Responsibilities\nSupport Drug Product manufacturing within the Vial and Syringe filling plants.\nDevelop, optimise and modernise the maintenance PMO programme to ensure equipment maintenance is maintained at the right level, frequency while also utilising digital tools to enhance predictability and targeted maintenance strategies.\nEmploy business analytics to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities for Equipment Reliability, Maintenance Reliable Execution, Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance.\nDevelop & Design Multi-Year Reliability roadmap and ensure flawless execution with close collaboration/partnership with key cross-functional stakeholders.\nAnalyse equipment performance data (e.g. downtime, failure trends, MTBF, MTTR) to identify chronic issues and implement sustainable reliability improvements.\nCollaborate with system owners, planners, and technicians to define maintenance scopes, refine job plans, and ensure maintenance tasks are technically sound, risk-based, and executable.\nSupport shutdown and non-commercial time activities by ensuring reliability-critical work is correctly prioritised, scoped, and executed to deliver right-first-time outcomes.\nDrive continuous improvement through the cycle, capturing lessons learned and embedding standard work, best practices, and technical documentation into future maintenance execution.\nLead and support system improvements, development of detailed specifications, engineering documents and standard operating procedures.\nSolving complex problems, project management, equipment lifecycle management and operational excellence.\nSupport a safe working environment by complying with all pertinent environmental health/safety practice, rules and regulations.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Chemical, Software) or related scientific discipline and/or relevant experience.\nMinimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a GxP manufacturing environment in a maintenance, reliability, or an engineering type role.\nDemonstrated ability to work across functional boundaries and influence outcomes without direct authority.\nPreferred Experience\n2-3 years’ engineering or scientific experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing environment.\nProven experience implementing reliability improvement initiatives in complex, multi-system facilities.\nKnowledge and Relevant Experience\nStrong working knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing and aseptic processing.\nFundamental understanding of GxP, EHS, and regulatory compliance requirements.\nAsset reliability methodologies (RCA, FMEA, criticality analysis, PM optimisation).\nExperience with CMMS/EAM systems and data-driven maintenance decision-making.\nApplication of continuous improvement tools and methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM).\nSkills\nStrong collaborator who promotes a culture of reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement.\nAbility to assess and influence both short- and long-term decisions impacting equipment uptime and plant availability.\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and prioritisation skills.\nStrong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.\nAbility to balance tactical execution with strategic reliability planning.\nWhat you can expect of us\nAs we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for your professional and personal growth and well-being.
