Amgen is an American biotechnology company founded in Thousand Oaks in 1980 that became one of the first firms to turn recombinant protein research into large commercial medicines. Its history rests on Epogen and Neupogen, and its current portfolio spans bone health with Prolia and Evenity, inflammation with Otezla and Tezspire, cardiovascular disease with Repatha, oncology including the bispecific antibody Blincyto, and a biosimilars business built on its own manufacturing capacity. The company is listed on Nasdaq, is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and expanded further into rare disease through its acquisition of Horizon Therapeutics.

Job Description

ABOUT AMGEN

Amgen harnesses the best of biology and technology to fight the world's toughest diseases, and make people's lives easier, fuller and longer. We discover, develop, manufacture and deliver innovative medicines to help millions of patients. Amgen helped establish the biotechnology industry more than 40 years ago and remains on the cutting edge of innovation, using technology and human genetic data to push beyond what is known today.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Role Description:

This role works closely with Amgen Research partners and Technology peers to ensure that scientific, workflow, data, and platform needs for Large Molecule Discovery are translated into clear technical requirements for solution implementation. The role leverages scientific domain knowledge, Benchling platform understanding, and business process expertise to shape epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, business process maps, use cases, data requirements, and UAT scenarios for delivery teams.

You will join a multi-functional team of scientists, product owners, business analysts, developers, architects, and platform experts enabling digital capabilities for biologics discovery. The team supports scientific software platforms and workflows that enable capture, analysis, storage, registration, search, reporting, and downstream availability of biologics research data. The role is especially focused on Benchling-enabled ELN/LIMS capabilities, protein sequence and biomolecule workflows, scientific data quality, and integration readiness for downstream reporting, analytics, and AI/ML use cases.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Function as a Scientific Business Systems Analyst within a SAFe Agile product team supporting Large Molecule Discovery and Research Informatics capabilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between global Research Informatics teams, LMD scientists, scientific SMEs, Product Owners, architects, developers, and support teams.
  • Translate complex scientific and technology needs into actionable epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, data rules, process flows, and testable requirements.
  • Support Benchling-related delivery across ELN, LIMS, Registry, Inventory, Requests, Workflows, templates, schemas, permissions, and data model enhancements.
  • Partner with scientists and SMEs to understand and document workflows across cloning, expression, protein sequence, phage and yeast display, NGS, purification, analytics, assays, biomolecule registration, and handoff reporting.
  • Analyze current and future state workflows to identify process standardization, data quality, metadata, automation, and adoption opportunities.
  • Support feature requests, feedback, production issues, bugs, enhancements, data migration, access needs, and release readiness activities in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
  • Define and validate data requirements for Benchling and connected platforms, including downstream reporting, data products, Kafka/CDL-style integrations, and analytics consumption.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to leverage Agentic AI, Generative AI, and AI-enabled development tools to streamline research processes, improve knowledge discovery, and increase delivery efficiency across Large Molecule Discovery capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain functional documentation, workflow diagrams, user guides, release notes, training materials, and communication plans for business users.
  • Coordinate UAT planning and execution, including test scenarios, traceability to requirements, defect triage, and business sign-off readiness.
  • Contribute to backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, PI planning, roadmap inputs, and dependency tracking.
  • Ensure solutions are aligned with operational excellence, cybersecurity, compliance, data governance, and research data quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with geographically dispersed teams across India, the United States, and other Amgen research sites, supporting effective communication across time zones.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, product thinking, continuous improvement, user empathy, and measurable business value delivery.

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 - 9 years of experience in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computational Biology, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience implementing, configuring, supporting, or enhancing scientific software platforms in a biopharma, biotechnology, life sciences, laboratory, or research informatics environment.
  • Hands-on or strong functional experience with Benchling or comparable ELN/LIMS platforms.
  • Experience supporting scientific workflows related to large molecule discovery, protein engineering, molecular biology, biologics discovery, protein sequence data, or sample/biomolecule registration.
  • Experience working with scientific stakeholders to define data capture, metadata, controlled vocabulary, reporting, and integration requirements.
  • Experience with requirements management, release delivery, UAT, production support, and change management in Agile product teams.

Functional Skills

Must-Have Skills

  • Scientific business analysis experience in Research Informatics, biologics discovery, life sciences, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or related scientific technology domains.
  • Experience translating scientific and technology needs into epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, use cases, test plans, and release-ready requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with JIRA, Confluence, Agile/Scrum or SAFe delivery, backlog refinement, sprint planning, UAT coordination, and stakeholder demos.
  • Strong understanding of scientific data capture, data quality, metadata, sample/biomolecule registration concepts, and workflow standardization.
  • Ability to partner with scientists, product owners, developers, architects, validation, cybersecurity, and support teams across global time zones.

Good-to-Have Skills

  • Experience configuring or supporting Benchling, including ELN, LIMS, Registry, Inventory, Requests, Workflows, schemas, templates, entities, and permissions.
  • Knowledge of protein sequence, cloning, expression, purification, analytics, display technologies, NGS, biomolecule registration, and protein handoff workflows.
  • Experience with LIMS/ELN platforms, scientific data platforms, API integrations, data migration, Kafka/CDL-style pipelines, reporting, or instrument data ingestion.
  • Understanding of FAIR data principles, scientific metadata governance, controlled vocabularies, and preparation of research data for analytics, AI, or machine learning use cases.
  • Exposure to platforms such as Geneious, ADEPT, BioReg, P3, HTB, Byosphere, Spotfire, Dash apps, or equivalent scientific informatics tools.

Professional Certifications:

  • SAFe for Teams certification, Certified ScrumMaster, Product Owner certification, Business Analysis certification, or equivalent Agile/product delivery certification preferred.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and gap/fit assessment skills with the ability to create clarity from ambiguous scientific and technology problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical or scientific concepts in business terms.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while proactively managing priorities, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Strong facilitation skills for workshops, backlog refinement, UAT sessions, demos, and cross-functional decision-making forums.
  • High degree of initiative, ownership, curiosity, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work effectively with global, virtual, and matrixed teams.
  • Team-oriented mindset with focus on quality, adoption, delivery discipline, and measurable business value.

Shift Information:
