In this role, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting global sourcing initiatives across two key areas: Primary Market Research (PMR), supporting Amgen’s Business Analytics & Insights (BAI) organization, and a broad portfolio of categories supporting Amgen’s Value & Access (V&A) organization, primarily within Research & Data and Consulting.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will play a key role in developing and executing sourcing strategies that align with business objectives, category strategy, and global requirements. This includes leading sourcing initiatives, cross-functional collaboration across Category Management, Procurement Business Partners, BAI, V&A, Finance, Legal and enabling third-party solutions that enhance AMGEN spend management, for the categories under the scope of responsibility.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will conduct scenario analysis and award suppliers beyond TCO, use evaluation criteria including Amgen-wide and business objectives (i.e. small business, sustainability, innovation) and align award decisions based on broader supplier strategy and relationships.

The role will apply strong financial and analytical acumen to evaluate supplier proposals, pricing structures, spend and market data, business requirements, and sourcing scenarios to support fact-based recommendations and maximize value.

Success in this role requires the ability to operate effectively in a complex global stakeholder environment, apply creative problem solving to ambiguous business challenges, and leverage procurement technology, analytics, and market intelligence to improve sourcing decisions and business outcomes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Drive global sourcing events supporting BAI and V&A stakeholders, delivering world-class procurement services across assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Partner with Category Management and Business Partners to identify and build sourcing initiatives based on opportunities.
  • Deliver cost efficiencies, improved speed-to-market, and supplier innovation.
  • Lead complex and cross-functional projects through RFX, supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contract development for categories under the scope.
  • Collaborate with procurement peers to define the appropriate sourcing and contracting approach and ensure effective processes, evaluation frameworks, governance, and decision criteria are applied throughout supplier selection and contract development.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals using financial and non-financial criteria, including total cost, capability, innovation, sustainability, risk, and broader business objectives
  • Leverage procurement, e-sourcing, analytics, reporting, and contract management tools to improve sourcing execution, generate actionable insights, enhance transparency, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Proactively help to ensure compliance, identify and escalate sourcing, supplier, commercial, or contracting risks through the appropriate governance channels.

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong strategic sourcing experience within a complex global organization, preferably in Biotech or Pharma
  • Deep understanding of strategic sourcing principles, supplier relationship management, and contract lifecycle management.
  • Strong financial, legal, and contractual fluency to navigate nuanced Indirect materials & services agreements and deliver business-aligned outcomes.
  • Experience managing sourcing initiatives (complex, cross functional initiatives) from strategy development through execution and value realization.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate market insights and business needs into procurement strategies.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data and insights and drive supplier-enabled innovations to inform procurement decisions.
  • Ability to independently manage workplans, timelines, dependencies, sourcing milestones, and stakeholder inputs across multiple concurrent initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior business stakeholders in a complex, matrixed environment

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Advanced degree or significant professional experience in strategic sourcing across PMR and V&A or indirect categories such as Data/ Analytics, Marketing, Consulting
  • An analytical mindset focused on performance metrics and value management, encompassing the generation, realization, and recognition of pipeline value.
  • Experience working across multiple markets/ regions.
  • Familiarity with indirect procurement categories such as marketing services, consulting, Corporate Services, Market Intelligence or commercial operations.
  • Experience supporting regional or global category strategies in collaboration with global procurement teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 4-8 years of business partnering, category management, strategic sourcing and/or related experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8-12 years of business partnering, category management, strategic sourcing and/or related experience, AND
  • In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience , leading projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.

Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.
