Undergraduate Co-op Student - R&D Biologics Discovery

What you will do

Amgen British Columbia, located in Burnaby, is a research center of excellence focused primarily on the use of cutting-edge platform technology for the discovery of therapeutic antibodies. We are seeking a highly motivated co-op student to support data curation and analysis that enable model-informed antibody discovery. The student will work with Biologics Discovery, with defined consultation from data-science partners, to organize, evaluate, and harmonize scientific data for a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) and antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) modeling projects.
Potential Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a structured, traceable historical SOA knowledge base by extracting target and molecule parameters, model assumptions, simulation outputs, observed data, and model-performance information from prior projects.
- Mine scientific literature and available reference sources to create an ADC evidence and model-input dataset, including molecule and target information, affinity and potency, efficacy, species and dose, pharmacokinetics, DAR or stability, and assay context.
- Develop and apply a data dictionary, standardized templates, unit-normalization rules, and source-provenance records to make curated data analysis-ready and reusable.
- Perform quality checks, cross-check conflicting sources, document assumptions and data gaps, and prepare concise visual summaries of the curated evidence.
- Compare selected literature or historical trends with outputs from existing SOA or ADC models and communicate findings through summary reports and presentations.

Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Completion of one year of study from an accredited from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
- Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree concentration(s) in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology, Systems Biology, or a combined quantitative and life-science discipline
- Experience using Excel and at least one scientific or data-analysis language or tool, such as Python, R, SQL, or visualization software
- Basic knowledge of biology, pharmacology, or biologics sufficient to interpret scientific datasets and perform quality checks
- Able to work for two consecutive four months terms (8 months total)
- Completion of previous co-op term(s), or internship experience
- Ability to read and synthesize scientific literature
- High attention to details
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Ability to function effectively as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
