Our mission is to make Amplitude’s SDKs reliable, easy to adopt, and a joy to build on, so customers can confidently instrument their products and unlock insights at scale.\nWe’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer, iOS to play a key technical leadership role on our DevEx team. In this role, you will lead the design and development of Amplitude’s core iOS SDKs, including Analytics and Session Replay, and serve as the iOS platform expert that other SDK teams, such as Statsig, Guides, and Surveys rely on.\nAs a Staff Engineer, you’ll operate with a wide scope and high impact: setting technical direction for the iOS platform, driving cross-SDK architecture, improving performance and reliability, and raising the bar for developer experience across Amplitude’s mobile ecosystem.\nAs a Staff Software Engineer, you will:\nLead the technical direction, architecture, and long-term evolution of Amplitude’s iOS SDK platform.\n\nOwn and drive development of core iOS SDKs, including Analytics and Session Replay, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and ease of use.\n\nAct as the iOS platform expert and trusted partner for other SDK teams (Experiment, Guides, Surveys), enabling them to build on shared foundations safely and efficiently.\n\nDesign and evolve shared infrastructure, APIs, and abstractions that scale across multiple iOS SDKs.\n\nCollaborate closely with Product, and Customer Support to ensure SDKs meet real customer needs.\n\nLead cross-team technical discussions, reviews, and architectural decisions that span multiple SDKs.\n\nImprove developer experience through better APIs, documentation, tooling, testing strategies, and sample apps.\n\nMentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising the overall quality and effectiveness of the team.\n\nYou'll be a great addition to the team if you have:\nA strong focus on developer experience and empathy for the engineers who use your work.\n\nExpertise in iOS platform internals and best practices.\n\nA track record of technical leadership where others look to you for guidance and decision-making.\n\nStrong judgment in making tradeoffs between API design, performance, backward compatibility, and speed of delivery.\n\nComfort working across team boundaries and influencing without direct authority.\n\nA high bar for code quality, testing, and long-term maintainability.\n\nThe ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.\n\nAt a minimum, you need to have:\nB.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.\n\n8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent on iOS development.\n\nDeep expertise in iOS platform internals and best practices.\n\nStrong proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, with experience using modern iOS APIs, frameworks, and development tools.\n\nExperience designing public APIs with a strong focus on stability and backward compatibility.\n\nExperience debugging complex issues across a wide range of mobile devices and OS versions.\n\nFamiliarity with performance profiling, memory management, and concurrency on iOS.\n\nThis role is eligible for equity, benefits and other forms of compensation.\nBased on Colorado law, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in Colorado. Colorado range: $198,000 - $299,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)\nBased on legislation in New York City, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in New York City. New York City salary range: $220,000 - $331,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)\nBased on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in San Francisco Bay Area of California. Salary range: $220,000 - $331,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)\nBased on legislation in California, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in California outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. California salary range: $198,000 - $299,000 total target cash (inclusive of bonus or commission)\nBased on legislation in Washington state, the following details are for individuals who will work for Amplitude in Washington state.
