Working as part of a team of experienced underwriters and\nunderwriting assistants across the country, AVP will be a contributing team player and\nwilling participant in meetings, workshops and events.\nResponsible for producing, underwriting and retaining profitable business for the company.\nEffectively handle an impactful flow of new and renewal accounts within division’s\nguidelines and appetite, including tough products, habitational, commercial contractors,\nhospitality and other miscellaneous casualty; additionally excess construction project\nbusiness including wrap-ups, project specifics, and owners interest for medium-large\ncommercial and residential construction projects.\nMarketing Ambridge Excess Casualty products, developing and strengthening wholesale\nbroker relationships.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\n Underwrite, maintain and grow the Excess Casualty portfolio in accordance with the\nbusiness plan, strategy, authority levels and regulatory environment.\n Exhibit technical expertise with service of new and existing accounts\n Gather and evaluate relevant underwriting and risk information independently;\ncommunicate findings and analysis to other key Brit staff and management.\n Initiate pricing discussions on new and renewal accounts; liaise with management to\nensure pricing approach is competitive yet profitable.\n Negotiate and commit underwriting capacity financial arrangements in the best\ninterest of the company, long and short range; ensure that business is being carried\nout within underwriting guidelines.\n Manage the entire underwriting cycle for individual accounts and assist in the\npreparation of and calculation of underwriting figures for input into the Business Plan.\n Advise clients on policy coverages and policy contract wording while being cautious of\nthe company’s best interest\n Establish and maintain knowledge of internal controls and all procedures relating to\nunderwriting.\n Identify and raise issues with in-force accounts / risks; using best judgement, liaise\nwith a variety of other disciplines including claims, legal and/or loss control on issues;\nrecommend solutions to ensure risks are mitigated or referred to management.\n Carry out research on specific accounts as appropriate.\nMarketing and broker development - with team members and individually. Potential\ntravel and dinners / entertainment in evenings\n Travel to and participate/lead client meetings; use judgement on how best to balance\ncosts with business needs.\n Maintain key client relationships critical to the on-going success of the business.\n Encourage dialogue with other market practitioners to gain the benefit of market\ninformation.\n Identify exposure to loss and recommend appropriate pricing and coverages.\n Participate, as needed, in interviewing, hiring, training, and development of additional\nstaff.\n Work with MD and SVP on identifying areas of improvement, create efficiencies and\nimprove margins.\n Contribute to the research and development of new business.\n Contribute to preparation of data for inclusion in the company report and accounts.\n Work Remote in an effective workspace and prioritize work during working hours\nDecision Making Responsibilities:\n Efficiently qualify risks, gather necessary information to create clear and appropriately\nthorough referrals - to include the opportunity, risk analysis, pricing and terms, and\nsuggested action.\n Responsible for the appropriate recording of risk, premiums, claims exposures and\naggregates so as to enable timely reporting of all relevant information to the syndicate,\nboard and regulatory bodies.\n Participate and present own risks written at Peer Review meetings to articulate analytical approach to underwriting decisions\nRegulatory Conduct Rules\n1. Act with integrity.\n2. Act with due skill, care and diligence.\n3. Be open and co-operative with Lloyd’s, the FCA, the PRA, and other regulators.\n4. Pay due regard to the interests of customers and treat them fairly.\n5.
