The CDL Driver Trainer will have proven longevity in the field, excellent communication skills, and possess demonstrated physical, intellectual, and leadership ability to perform duties over the road, maneuvering range, and in classroom instruction. The CDL Driver Trainer works under the guidance and supervision of the Program Director, Lead Driver Trainer, or their designee.\nKey Responsibilities\nPromotes and Maintains a Positive Learning Environment\nMaintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of all policies, and adheres to and upholds their implementation and enforcement.\n\nConvenes all assigned classes per their start and end times.\n\nMaintains a safe environment for all students and staff.\n\nSafeguards materials, records, and equipment.\n\nAbides by all Federal, state, and accreditation/compliance rules and regulations.\n\nServes as a professional role model to students.\n\nInspires student confidence in program, faculty, and self.\n\nMaintains professional dress and demeanor and communication\n\nMaintains appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.\n\nMaintains an attitude of enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate and collaborate.\n\nInteracts with students and fellow employees in a courteous, professional, and positive manner.\n\nTreats students with fairness, impartiality, and objectivity.\n\nProvides advance notification regarding lateness, absence, and vacation schedules during time of substitute assignment.\n\nFulfills Administrative Responsibilities\nMaintains accurate, up-to-date records of student progress, performance, and attendance, using the tools and technology provided by the institution, as required by school policy and procedure.\n\nMaintains appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.\n\nMaintains flexibility in fulfilling the instructional needs of the division/client.\n\nDelivers Instructional Material\nTrain students in all areas of trucking/driving.\n\nAdminister written tests on classroom material and evaluate grades.\n\nConduct pre-trip inspections of commercial motor vehicles\n\nInstruct air-brake tests.\n\nInstruct straight-line backing.\n\nInstruct offset backing, right and left.\n\nInstruct 45-degree alley-docking.\n\nInstruct parallel parking, conventional side, and driver side.\n\nUtilize effective delivery skills (e.g., eye contact, voice intonation, and various questioning techniques).\n\nDraw on personal experiences to relate the material presented.\n\nUtilizes required skills assessments to evaluate student progress in the skills required to successfully pass and obtain their Commercial Driver’s License.\n\nAbility to stand and walk for 8-10 hours outside, in all elements, climb in and out of trucks several times a day, and lift and move up to 50 lbs.\n\nExperience and Education Required\nValid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), the Class level must meet the required level of the position\n\nHigh School Diploma or GED.\n\n3 years of verifiable on-the-road experience within the last 5 years.\n\nMVR and background check, which includes a drug screening\n\nAbility to pass our road test, as applicable.\n\nRequired to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screen.\n\nAbility to maintain a valid Medical Examiner Certificate and pass DOT drug tests upon hire and on an ongoing basis, when applicable.\n\nKnowledge of procedures for and ability to execute a pre-trip inspection, air-brake tests, and CDL driving essentials (i.e. straight-line backing, offset backing, 45-degree alley-docking, parallel parking).\n\nAbility to instruct shifting patterns (i.e. driving highway, city, night vs day, in different weather conditions).\n\nKnowledge of and demonstrated ability to maintain vehicle equipment.\n\nMotivation, dedication, professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm for teaching.\n\nCommitment to stay current with industry standards and requirements within the field of instruction.\n\nAbility to facilitate learning on-course content in the field of instruction.\n\nInterpersonal relationship skills are necessary for positive interactions with students, alumni, faculty, and employers.\n\nProficiency in technology to include but not limited to Microsoft office suite, Google suite, and cloud based applications.\n\nPhysical Demands\nMobility & Balance: Ability to frequently climb in/out of the cab, bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach to perform pre/post-trip inspections and navigate tight spaces.\n\nStrength: Ability to crank trailer landing gear (often 100+ lbs), handle training and safety equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading (if applicable).\n\nEndurance: Ability to sustain physical activity and be alert during extending driving and instructional periods, including exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, rain, ice or snow.\n\nSensory Acuity and Overall Health: Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and meet DOT physical qualifications required to hold a CDL, with or without reasonable accommodations, as required by Federal regulations.\n\nSpecific Tasks & Considerations:\nDemonstrating Skills: Physically showing students how to couple/uncouple trailers, perform inspections, and maneuver the large vehicle.\n\nEnvironmental Exposure: Working outdoors in various conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow while training.\n\nWork Environment\nWork environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an
