The team is responsible for the custom design of large hydro generator components with a primary focus on North American generator projects. This team is located at the Andritz Hydro Peterborough Generator Center, which includes a modern coil and bar manufacturing facility. This position includes technical responsibility for the mechanical design during all stages of a project life cycle (proposal, contract design, manufacturing and installation). The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of different topics including stress, heat transfer, ventilation, vibration and bearing analysis. The unique requirements of each hydro project make this a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a candidate with related skills and experience.\nThe Mechanical Engineer is expected to work closely with the local engineering and drafting teams, as well as externally located engineering specialists, project management, manufacturing and installation teams. Occasional travel to customer locations, project sites or other Andritz offices is required.\nIndividual duties will vary based on project requirements, but generally include the following:\nOptimization of hydro generator mechanical design, for proposals, contracts and studies;\nAnalysis of mechanical components, using in-house tools or developing calculations as necessary;\nDocumentation for proposals, technical reports and customer O&M manuals;\nReview and approval of mechanical drawings to ensure contractual and internal requirements are met;\nCreation of engineering instructions that define technical requirements for manufacturing , installation and testing;\nDisposition of non-conformances during manufacturing and installation;\nReview and analysis of site data and testing;\nCreation and calibration of design tools;\nWork on R&D projects for development of new generator technologies.\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\nThe ideal candidate is an individual that understands the generator product and has the following skills:\nBachelor of Science Degree in Engineering;\nExisting or potential for Professional Engineer registration;\nFamiliar with MathCAD & Excel;\nComputer skills in common PC applications;\nExcellent problem solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity;\nAbility to work with people in a team environment;\nEffective oral and written communication skills;\nAbility to travel & work with various cultures.\nWhat do we offer\nLife, disability, dental and extended health insurance;\nPension plan;\nHybrid work mode;\nPerformance share plan;\nEmployee assistance program;\nEmployee individualized training and career plan. \nDid you know?\nANDRITZ Canada is part of an international technology group with an extensive portfolio of sustainable products and solutions.
