Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.\n Capcoal Mine is seeking an experienced Geologist to join our Technical Services team on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a team of passionate, industry-leading professionals and play a key role in maximising resource value while advancing your career.\nReporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, this position provides short- to medium-term geological support across the operations. You will contribute directly to optimising production areas by identifying geological risks and ensuring safe, efficient planning and execution.\nKey responsibilities:\nProvide specialist coal quality advice to production teams and customers to support the achievement of mine performance targets and maximize resource value.\nMonitoring and data collection including the use of slope stability radar (SSR)\nIdentify and manage geological and geotechnical hazards impacting mining operations.\nContinuously improve coal mining plans and excavation methodologies through reconciliation of planned versus actual performance and analysis of operational variances.Conduct mapping, logging, and data validation to ensure data quality and reliability\nDevelop fit-for-purpose short-term geological models.\nConduct daily geological pit inspections to ensure coal quality standards are maintained and to identify and manage quality-related risks within the mining operation.\nSupport mine planning, drill and blast design, and daily operational decision-making.\nAssist Coal mining activity daily and as required.\nMonitor coal quality performance against customer specifications and lead or support investigations into quality-related issues.\nAssist in minimising coal loss and contamination\nPerform reconciliation analysis to drive continuous improvement in performance\nCollaborate closely with geologists, geotechnical engineers, mining engineers, and operations teams.\nMaintain and continuously develop the geological production model to support accurate coal quality forecasting and operational decision-making.\n Tertiary qualifications in Geological Sciences or related program .\nAt least three years experience in operational mining, preferably open cut coal mining.\nDemonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.\nStrong analysis, problem solving and attention to detail.\nStrong communication and stakeholder management skills.\n Full-time permanent position based at Capcoal Mine, Middlemount.\n8/6 roster.\nResidential, FIFO (company funded) & DIDO options\nSubsidised accommodation and company funded camp options provided\nAttractive Salary + 12% Superannuation\nDiscounted Gym membership\nEmployee Assistance Program (EAP) available for employees\nWhat we offer\nWhen you join Anglo American, you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package and a range of flexible work arrangements that support the balance of work, family and individual circumstances.
