UTM Supervisor
The UTM Supervisor shall report to the General Manager / UTM Operation Manager and shall be responsible for the planning, supervision, verification, and reporting of assigned projects. The UTM Supervisor and UTM Operator shall function as a measurement team and work in tandem during onboard operations to ensure measurements are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with survey / client requirements.
ROLES ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead the UTM team on ship-board assignments
- Review survey requirements, measurement scope, and project specifications.
- Prepare measurement plans and coordinate project execution.
- Liaise with attending surveyors, vessel representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Brief the UTM Operator on measurement requirements, work scope, and safety precautions.
- Supervise and verify onboard measurement activities.
- Confirm that measurement locations, extent, and coverage meet survey requirements.
- Assess significant wastage, corrosion, pitting, deformation, or other abnormal conditions.
- Prepare, review, and compile the UTM report.
- Ensure all project records are complete and properly retained.
Requirements
KEY SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
Technical skills -
- Ship structural Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) and marine inspection.
- Interpretation of Class, IACS and survey requirements for thickness measurement.
- Preparation of UTM measurement plans, scope, locations and coverage.
- Review and validation of UTM readings, measurement records and prepare final reports.
- Understanding of ship structural arrangements and common deterioration mechanisms.
- Application of measurement quality, calibration and traceability requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant Ship-board safety procedures.
Professional skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for reading and marking-up ship structural drawings, measurement locations and UTM sketches.
- Proficient in MS Office and digital reporting systems.
- Plan and supervise UTM projects from preparation to reporting.
- Lead and brief UTM Operators on scope, methods and safety.
- Coordinate effectively with Class Surveyors, vessel personnel and clients.
- Exercise judgement to accept, reject or require re-measurement of readings.
- Willingness and readiness for international travel, with valid passport and national CDC.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement and marine inspection.
- Practical experience conducting and/or supervising UTM for special surveys on ships.
- Experience with Class/IACS requirements preferred.
Education & Qualifications
- Graduate (any stream) or
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical engineering or Naval Architecture
- ASNT Level II in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or equivalent.
