This role provides technical expertise, risk assessment, and operational support to mine planning, geology, and operations teams, ensuring robust geotechnical design and performance throughout the project lifecycle.\nKey Responsibilities\nSafety & Risk Management\nIdentify geotechnical risks and implement controls to ensure a safe working environment for employees and contractors.\nProactively assess and resolve emerging stability and ground control issues.\nEnsure all geotechnical work complies with AGA standards and regulatory requirements.\nGeotechnical Design & Analysis\nDevelop and implement geotechnical design criteria for mine plans and operational activities.\nAnalyze geotechnical testwork data and define engineering parameters for slopes, foundations, and infrastructure.\nConduct trade-off studies to optimize geotechnical design and mine planning solutions.\nEnsure geotechnical considerations are fully integrated into mine design, scheduling, and execution.\nGeotechnical Programs & Data Management\nPlan, coordinate, and manage geotechnical investigation and testwork programs.\nDefine sample selection criteria and collaborate with geology teams on representative sampling.\nManage collection, analysis, and interpretation of geotechnical data and ensure accurate technical reporting.\nMaintain geotechnical databases and documentation in alignment with company standards.\nTechnical Oversight & Continuous Improvement\nEnsure design deliverables meet AGA engineering standards and are practical, reliable, and cost-effective.\nIdentify improvements in geotechnical design processes, systems, and operational practices.\nContribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, performance, and cost efficiency.\nCollaboration & Integration\nWork closely with mine planning, geology, operations, and engineering teams to ensure alignment and effective project delivery.\nCoordinate with external consultants, laboratories, and engineering partners as required.\nCommunicate geotechnical risks, findings, and recommendations clearly to project teams and leadership.\nRequirements\nBSc in Engineering Geology or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.\n5-7 years of geotechnical engineering experience in mining or related industries.\nExperience supporting open-pit operations and geotechnical design.\nDemonstrated experience contributing to project or operational teams.\nPractical application of geotechnical design in mining environments.\nStrong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, hydrology, and engineering geology.\nProficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience, Unwedge) and mine planning tools (Vulcan, Deswik).\nAbility to interpret geotechnical data and assess excavation performance trends.\nUnderstanding of mine planning processes and integration of geotechnical inputs.\nStrong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.\nAbility to work independently and exercise sound judgment.\nEffective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.\nHigh level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.\nCommitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.\nMust be authorized to work in the United States.\nValid driver’s license required for site travel.\nAngloGold Ashanti Limited\nwww.anglogoldashanti.com\nBENEFITS:\nAngloGold Ashanti North America (AGANA) offers a competitive benefits package to include company paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums; flexible spending accounts; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays.
