This role bridges feasibility study requirements and active operational execution, ensuring that open-pit mine sequences, haulage networks, and waste rock storage facilities are optimized for safety, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and maximum economic value.\nAs a key technical operational engineer, this position partners closely with Geotechnical, Hydrogeology, Process, Site Maintenance, and Mine Operations teams to align daily material movement with long-term strategic plans across Nevada Projects.\nKey Responsibilities\nMine Planning & Production Scheduling\nDevelop, maintain, and optimize life-of-mine (LOM), medium-term, and short-range open-pit mine plans, ensuring alignment between strategic business plans and tactical pit operations.\nPit, Ramp & Phase Design\nDeliver detailed phase designs, haul road layouts, ramp alignments, and waste dump / stockpile designs adhering to geotechnical slope stability parameters and equipment operating constraints.\nDrill & Blast Engineering\nDesign and optimize drill-and-blast patterns, powder factors, tie-in sequences, and wall-control blasting protocols to minimize vibration, prevent wall damage, and optimize fragmentation for downstream processing.\nProduction Reconciliation & Fleet Analytics\nDirect monthly mine production reconciliation (tonnes, grade, material types) comparing actual fleet production against short-term forecasts and reserve models to identify and correct variances.\nConduct equipment productivity analyses, cycle time studies, and haulage simulations to optimize fleet allocation, fuel efficiency, and haul road maintenance schedules.\nGeotechnical & Hydrotechnical Integration\nPartner closely with Geotechnical and Hydrogeology teams to incorporate slope stability monitoring, radar data, depressurization layouts, and in-pit dewatering networks into active mine designs.\nOperational Readiness & Contractor Support\nSupport mining contractor management, technical scope-of-work development, bid evaluations, and operational readiness activities leading into commercial production as required.\nRequirements\nBachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required.\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license (or progress toward licensure) and/or Member of SME / AusIMM preferred.\nMinimum 2+ years of progressive mine engineering experience within open-pit hard-rock mining or large-scale civil earthworks operations.\nProven track record in open-pit design, production scheduling, drill-and-blast optimization, and fleet productivity analysis.\nDemonstrated experience with mining study progression (PFS/FS) through to operational startup and commercial production execution preferred.\nIn-depth knowledge of open-pit mining methods, cut-off grade strategies, ore control workflows, mineral reserve calculations, and waste rock storage management.\nPractical understanding of heap leach stacking workflows, crusher feed constraints, and mill/plant blending requirements.\nStrong familiarity with mine safety regulations (MSHA), environmental permit constraints, and state mining compliance frameworks; familiarity with environmental reclamation standards and practices preferred.\nPractical knowledge of heavy equipment capabilities and safe operating procedures in surface mining applications.\nAdvanced proficiency with industry-standard mine planning software (e.g., Hexagon MinePlan/MineSight, Deswik, Vulcan, or Whittle) and haulage simulation tools.\nPreferred experience with Autodesk/AutoCAD and ESRI ArcGIS (ArcView/ArcMap) for surveying, GIS, land, and permitting support.\nStrong analytical acumen in production reconciliation, cost-benefit trade-off studies, and material movement tracking.\nExcellent verbal and technical communication skills to present complex mine plans clearly to site crews, technical leads, and project leadership.\nValid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.\nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States.\nAngloGold Ashanti Limited\nwww.anglogoldashanti.com\nBENEFITS:\nAngloGold Ashanti North America (AGANA) offers a competitive benefits package to include company paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums; flexible spending accounts; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays.
