This role provides expert technical leadership and governance over heavy fixed-plant mineral processing equipment, materials handling systems, slurry/water piping networks, and ancillary mechanical infrastructure, ensuring all engineering packages adhere strictly to AngloGold Ashanti engineering standards, safety codes, and project execution objectives.\nAs a key technical authority, the Principal Mechanical Engineer partners closely with EPCM contractors, OEM vendors, Process, Civil/Structural, Electrical & Instrumentation, Project Controls, and Operational Readiness teams to ensure seamless multi-disciplinary integration and safe operational handover across Nevada Projects.\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical Leadership & Mechanical Governance\nLead the development, review, and approval of mechanical design criteria, technical specifications, calculations, datasheets, and drawings across all project phases.\nEnsure full compliance with AngloGold Ashanti technical standards, applicable ASME, ANSI, API, OSHA, and MSHA codes, and project execution milestones.\nEngineering Review & Quality Assurance\nLead technical oversight and quality assurance of deliverables submitted by EPCM contractors, OEM vendors, and specialized engineering consultants.\nIndependently interrogate complex engineering calculations, piping stress analyses, and equipment performance envelopes from an owner's risk perspective.\nEquipment Specifications & Selection\nOversee the mechanical evaluation, selection, and specification of major fixed plant and processing equipment, including crushing and grinding circuits, overland conveyors, agitators, pumps, piping, and HVAC/dust collection systems.\nProcurement & Vendor Technical Support\nLead technical bid evaluations (TBE), vendor data reviews, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).\nManage supplier compliance with engineering specifications, quality assurance standards, and fabrication timelines.\nConstructability, Field Support & Commissioning\nProvide on-site mechanical engineering expertise during construction, field installation, pre-commissioning, and operational startup.\nResolve technical Requests for Information (RFIs), field engineering variances, and design deviations promptly.\nManagement of Change (MOC) & Risk Control\nEvaluate and authorize mechanical engineering scope modifications, design changes, and technical risk assessments to maintain project cost, schedule, and safety integrity.\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nPartner closely with Process, Civil/Structural, Electrical & Instrumentation, Project Controls, and Operational Readiness teams to ensure seamless multi-disciplinary integration.\nRequirements\nBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required.\nActive Professional Engineer (PE) license (or eligibility for immediate reciprocity in Nevada) and/or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.\nMinimum 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in large-scale mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, or major capital project environments.\nProven track record leading mechanical design, equipment selection, and field execution oversight on complex capital projects ($100M+).\nExtensive experience managing EPCM contractors, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nIn-depth expertise in heavy fixed-plant mineral processing equipment (crushers, overland conveyors, screening equipment, heap leach / ADR pumping systems, slurry delivery, and water piping).\nComprehensive understanding of relevant engineering codes and regulatory standards (ASME, ANSI, API, OSHA, MSHA).\nStrong working knowledge of capital project delivery frameworks (PEA, PFS, FS, detailed engineering, EPC/EPCM execution, and operational handover).\nProficient in 3D CAD/model review tools (e.g., Navisworks), piping design tools, FEA simulation software, and Microsoft Office Suite.\nSound engineering judgment with strong analytical problem-solving skills to evaluate cost, risk, and performance trade-offs.\nExceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to collaborate effectively across project teams, executive management, site crews, and regulators.\nValid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.\nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States.\nAngloGold Ashanti Limited\nwww.anglogoldashanti.com\nBENEFITS:\nAngloGold Ashanti North America (AGANA) offers a competitive benefits package to include company paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums; flexible spending accounts; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays.
