control work to ensure the operational readiness of all mine winders and hoisting equipment.\nEnsure winder mechanical systems operate safely, reliably and in compliance with statutory mining regulations.\nApply operational engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable and cost-effective manner while minimizing operational risks.\nProvide direct supervisory leadership to Mechanical Technicians and apprentices to ensure timely execution of planned and unplanned maintenance activities.\nOversee the day-to-day planning, monitoring and control of all mechanical aspects of Winders and Shafts relating to underground material and personnel movement, material hoists and shaft work.\nROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES\nEnsure all winder work meets mining regulations, the winder code of practice, company standards and site statutory inspection requirements.\nEnforce isolation, lock-out/tag-out and permit-to-work requirements on every job, and confirm the winder is secured and signed off before work starts.\nEnsure risk assessments are completed and understood by the crew before critical tasks, especially work in the shaft, at the headgear and on conveyances.\nReport incidents and near misses, participate in investigations, and close out corrective actions, audit findings, inspection deviations and compliance actions within agreed deadlines.\nEnsure competent persons carry out statutory examinations and that certificates and records are current.\nLead by example to create a safe working environment where risks are assessed and managed and tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.\nCarry out planned task observations, workplace visits and inspections, and implement major hazard standards.\nDeliver safety management plan elements for the areas under the incumbent's control and ensure compliance with safety leading indicators.\nEnforce strict adherence to mine safety standards and mining and minerals regulations related to shaft safety and operations, applying HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.\nContinuously seek opportunities to improve design and field safety performance with regard to Winders and Shaft.\nSupervise underground construction, refurbishment and maintenance activities in accordance with Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site's Environmental Management Plan.\nIssue environmental related instructions to employees at the workplace and achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure.\nUse Analyze and Improve tools to investigate process interruptions so that exposure to environmental risks is reduced.\nReduce energy usage by running mine energy consumption per unit produced at the optimal rate within sphere of influence.\nDefine the roles and accountabilities of subordinates using AGA's How We Work guidelines.\nAssist in recruitment and appointment in accordance with company policy and localization objectives as directed through the reporting line.\nExecute training and development plans and ensure the organization structure can deliver the Winders and Shafts maintenance strategy.\nCommunicate policies and procedures to achieve full understanding and compliance and provide guidance to subordinates in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance.\nImplement, complete and maintain an up-to-date skills matrix, identify skill deficiencies, initiate corrective action, and develop succession plans for key positions.\nIdentify safety training needs and deliver safety training requirements to enable personnel to safely perform their designated work.\nPlan, oversee and execute regular preventive and corrective maintenance for winding equipment, including drums, brakes, gearboxes, motors, ropes, and electrical safety circuit and systems.\nSupervise execution of all approved procedures relating to mechanical winders with the right quality and minimal downtime.\nCoordinate with electrical, instrumentation, planning, mining and contractors so shutdowns are fully prepared.\nReview work orders, record completed work and confirm all work is signed off before returning the winder to service.\nOversee rope inspection, lubrication, EMRT, records, rope changes and recaps, and track diameter, wear, broken wires, corrosion and lay length against discard criteria.\nEnsure cages and skips, guides, suspension gear, attachments and safety catches are inspected and tested to schedule and supervise conveyance replacement.\nInspect sheave wheel groove condition, bearings, alignment and structure, and supervise sheave replacement.\nCheck drum condition, clutches, brake paths, lining wear, calipers, springs and hydraulics, and confirm brake performance tests are completed and recorded.\nEnsure monitoring of oil condition, vibration, temperature, alignment and bearing health for gearboxes, shafts and couplings.\nSchedule and manage inspections, repairs and upgrades to maintain winder equipment reliability and safety.\nDevelop and implement a maintenance program for all mechanical and electrical components of the winding system, including motors, gearboxes, control systems, brakes and safety devices.\nMaintain winder logbooks, rope and conveyance histories, inspection and test records, equipment registers, and controlled procedures, drawings and checklists.\nReport downtime, defects, KPIs, completed work and risks to the Mechanical Superintendent or Senior Specialist, including shift and weekly reports.\nDiagnose and troubleshoot winder mechanical faults to minimize downtime and restore operation quickly.\nConduct detailed inspections of winder components to identify wear, fatigue or potential failure points and ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.\nWork to improve efficiency and reliability, ensuring winding systems operate within safe load and speed limits.\nManage inventory of critical spare parts and tools needed for winder maintenance and work with procurement to ensure timely ordering and availability of replacement parts and materials.\nAssist in preparing the sectional budget that supports company objectives and strategy.\nEnsure cost impacts in the area of accountability are evaluated and approved, communicate relevant financial details to subordinates, and stay within operational budget.\nIdentify, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.\nMaintain Winders and Shafts aspects of underground mine infrastructure and ore and personnel transport within the approved project schedule and achieve critical milestones.\nComply with all planned maintenance schedules on the Winders and Shafts and ensure compliance with MTBF, MTTR and availability targets.\nIdentify current and potential risks to installation and maintenance activities using the established risk management system and implement strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks.\nLead engineering studies including FMEA, root cause analysis and risk assessments for winder critical components.\nEnsure integrity of critical protection systems such as overspeed, overwind, slack rope, back-out protection, brake systems and emergency arrest systems.\nWork with planners to prepare weekly and daily maintenance schedules, verify availability of materials, tools and critical spare parts, and provide input into shutdown plans, major repairs and upgrade schedules.\nEnsure quality completion of work orders and accurate reporting in SAP and utilize the SAP asset maintenance management system in maintenance activities.\nComply with relevant legislation, applicable codes, best practice, industry and company standards, quality systems, policies, procedures, internal project requirements, lock-out/tag-out procedures, critical control monitoring and risk management frameworks.\nContinuously identify opportunities to improve cost, schedule, quality and safety outcomes in engineering, mining, refurbishment and construction activities in the area of accountability.\nLead incident investigations related to shaft or winder failures, near misses or abnormal conditions and drive corrective actions.\nEnsure all engineering changes follow formal change-management and approval processes and proactively manage change to avoid cost, schedule and quality issues.\nROLE REQUIREMENTS\nEducation & Qualification\nBSc or BTech in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 3 years of relevant experience in engineering, or\nHND or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or\nMechanical Technician Part III Certificate with 5 years of experience in engineering operations.\nProfessional Engineer license preferred.\nInspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission preferred.\nExperience\n3+ years in engineering roles with supervisory experience.\nRelevant experience in engineering operations.\nExperience overseeing engineering teams and ensuring project completion.\nExperience in planning, supervising and controlling maintenance activities for winders, shafts and hoisting equipment.\nExperience in statutory inspections, preventive and corrective
