We are convinced that greatness only happens when we prioritize these behaviors and the well-being of every person.\nLearn more about our Vision, purpose, values - AngloGold Ashanti\n About the Role\nThe Filtered Tailings Dry Stack Storage Facility (TSF) Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day geotechnical engineering oversight, operational surveillance, and deposition management of Filtered Tails Dry Stack Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and associated water management infrastructure across AngloGold Ashanti operations. Working closely with site operations, external consultants, and senior geotechnical leads, this role ensures facility stability, strict environmental compliance, and adherence to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), NDEP, MSHA, and AGA internal technical standards.\nAs a key technical operational engineer, this role partners closely with Process Operations, Site Maintenance, Environmental, and multidisciplinary technical teams to execute daily stacking plans, manage water balances, and ensure long-term facility safety.\nKey Responsibilities\nOperational Surveillance & Monitoring\nDirect routine Dry Stack Tailings Facility safety inspections and field surveillance.\nManage geotechnical instrumentation networks (piezometers, inclinometers, survey prisms, radar) and interpret performance data to identify emerging trends or anomalies.\nDeposition & Water Balance Execution\nCoordinate daily Stacking Plan strategies, spigotting sequences, beach formation, and site water balance tracking in direct partnership with Process Operations and Environmental teams.GISTM & TMS Governance\nImplement and maintain site-level Tailings Management System (TMS) routines.\nEnsure all operational activities comply with NDEP and GISTM requirements, Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs), and regulatory permits.\nConstruction & CQA Support\nProvide owner’s engineering oversight during TSF dam raises, earthworks, and liner installations.\nVerify that third-party Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) documentation matches approved engineering designs.\nEngineer of Record (EoR) Support\nFacilitate routine site inspections and data packages for the Engineer of Record (EoR) and Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB).\nAssist with the execution of annual Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs).\nEmergency Preparedness & Response\nSupport the maintenance of Tailings Emergency Response Plans (ERP), inundation mapping verification, and emergency trigger monitoring.Continuous Improvement & Incident Reporting\nInvestigate geotechnical variances, assist with Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and drive operational improvements in water recovery and Dry Stack Filtered stewardship.\nRequirements\nBachelor of Science in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline required.\nEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active Professional Engineer (PE) license (or progress toward licensure) preferred.\nMinimum 3 to 7 years of progressive engineering experience in geotechnical, civil, or metallurgical engineering.\nHands-on experience in tailings management, dam construction, or earthworks operations.\nDemonstrated background in geotechnical instrumentation data collection, stability evaluation, and field-based Dry Stack Filtered safety surveillance.\nSound working knowledge of soil mechanics, embankment stability, Filtered Tailings Stacking Plans, seepage modeling fundamentals, and unsaturated soil behavior.\nFamiliarity with GISTM standards, CDA/ICOLD dam safety guidelines, and relevant state/federal mining regulations (e.g., NDEP, MSHA).\nPractical understanding of tailings slurry delivery, sub-aerial deposition, decant systems, pump/pipeline operations, automatic filter operations, conveyor systems, and high-pressure pumping systems.\nProficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience SLIDE/RS2), GIS mapping tools, and automated instrumentation databases.\nStrong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities to evaluate real-time instrumentation alerts, execute TARP protocols, and implement rapid field mitigations.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills to deliver concise technical reports to management, operations crews, and engineering consultants.\nProven ability to work cross-functionally with plant operations, site maintenance, and multidisciplinary technical teams.\nValid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.\nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States.\nAngloGold Ashanti Limited\nwww.anglogoldashanti.com\nBENEFITS:\nAngloGold Ashanti North America (AGANA) offers a competitive benefits package to include company paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums; flexible spending accounts; 401(k) retirement plan with employer match; vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays.
