Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to ANM labeling standards).\nThe Special Systems Apprentice will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).\nThe Special Systems Apprentice performs testing: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable; use a tone set.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice will identify active voice or data circuits.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice will assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice will fully complete all required paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).\nThe Special Systems Apprentice will adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.\nNotify the Lead Technician of any project delays onsite or issues on the projects so that they can update the project stakeholders.\nWork with the operations team to formulate a plan to minimize the cost impact and bring the project under budget when it is determined that a project is going over budget.\nLow voltage pathway installation\nInstallation and pulling communications, security, and DAS cabling.\nTermination, certification and troubleshooting cabling.\nInstallation of security and communication equipment and devices.\nInstallation of low voltage control panels and power supplies.\nConfiguration, and start-up of security systems.\nInstallation of door hardware, locks, strikes, request to exit devices.\nThe Special Systems Installer will complete other responsibilities as assigned.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nThe Special Systems Apprentice must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).\nThe Special Systems Apprentice must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.\nThe Special Systems Apprentice must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.\nMust possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.\nMust enroll in the NNMIEC special systems apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship is a 3-year program which requires 160 hours of classroom instruction annually.\nMust possess and be proficient with the listed tools. See required hand tool list.\nMust learn skill to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.\nMust know the universal communications color codes.\nValid driver’s license with a clean driving record\nThe employee is expected to travel as needed for projects including overnight stays.\n\nTravel\nTravel is occasionally required for this position. Must have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.\nWorking Conditions\nThe standard work environment for this position is an indoor business office and construction environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. The employee may also be required to work in tight, confined spaces. The physical demands described here represent those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
