As an Embedded Linux Engineer at Utilidata, you will be responsible for automating the infrastructure that improves the flashing and provisioning of IoT devices in the manufacturing process. You will also focus on automating software build and deployment for IoT devices, configuring Linux-based systems for deployment, and ensuring tight security controls. Your work will directly contribute to configuring and managing over-the-air (OTA) systems, communications configurations, and potentially supporting Linux kernel development. We are looking for candidates who are collaborative, adaptable, and committed to driving innovation. This is a remote position based in the United States, and candidates will be expected to work cross-functionally with remote teams across the country.\nResponsibilities\nDesign, implement, and maintain Yocto-based embedded Linux OS projects\nAutomate the infrastructure to improve the flashing and provisioning of IoT devices in the manufacturing process\nAutomate software build and deployment processes for use in IoT devices\nConfigure and manage Linux-based IoT systems for deployment to the field\nImplement and manage over-the-air (OTA) software update systems\nConfigure and manage tight security controls to ensure the integrity and security of devices and data\nConfigure LTE and wifi subsystems \nWrite, debug, and maintain high quality software for embedded Linux systems with languages such as C and C++, bash scripting, and Python\nProvide Linux kernel and driver adjustments\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, algorithms, and product to ensure alignment with strategic objectives\nTroubleshoot, maintain, and update existing IoT systems and devices as needed\nSupport possible Linux kernel development and kernel module integration for IoT devices\nMonitor and analyze performance metrics of deployed systems and devices\nContribute to documentation for provisioning and deployment processes\nMinimum Qualifications8+ years of professional experience including 5+ years of experience working with Yocto, BSPs, Linux kernel, device drivers, bootloader configuration, and infrastructure automation\nExperience with configuring and deploying IoT systems, including OTA update systems and secure communications configurations\nExperience writing and maintaining embedded linux applications with C, C++, or other systems languages\nProficiency with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar\nExperience with software build systems and CI/CD pipelines\nStrong understanding of security protocols, particularly for IoT environments\nFamiliarity with Git, version control systems, and Agile methodologies\nExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues\nAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote work environment\nStrong communication skills, both written and verbal\n Enhanced Qualifications (Nice to Have)Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field\nFamiliarity with Linux kernel development and kernel module integration\nExperience with automation tools like Ansible\nExperience with Mender over-the-air update manager\nExperience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)\nFamiliarity with hardware-level IoT integration and provisioning processes\nExperience working with embedded systems\nSalary Range: $155,000 to $185,000 base compensation depending on experience plus stock options.
