At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.\nJob Purpose/Overview\nThe Hematology Technician I performs cytology accessioning, staining and laboratory testing. Prepares samples, sets up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets and releases results.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nBuild CBC/UA loads, slide preparation and staining \nAssist with prepping Avian / Exotic specimens as requested \nSpin manual hematocrits \nPrepare blood smears and perform re-checks as directed using LTP when necessary \nManage the LTP process \nPerform all required tests including Destiny Testing, including PT and PTT, Fibrinogen, UA Front End, Plasma protein and Feline blood typing \nEquipment verification with control samples \nResponsible for accurately matching slides with respective TRF’s. \nBuild cytology and path review to loads per protocol following Cyto schedule and make sure Load Distribution Log is completed accurately every shift \nProperly transfer Cytology table loads as required \nAccession and label all paperwork, specimen slides, tubes and jars \nGross and prepare smears, mono-layered cytospins and cell blocks \nPacking cases for in-house pathologists and for transportation \nMonitor and reconcile pending, distribution list and complete the daily distribution email. \nEnsure bar-coded racks are arranged correctly and loaded onto instruments \nPerform all required quality control per QA guidelines including all instrument maintenance and temperature charts subject to review \nRun all needed quality control and calibration by department \nReads, understands andfollows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures \nMaintains clean and organized work area. Restock supplies as needed \nParticipate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation \nConsult with senior peers on non-complex Hematology tasks to learn through experience \nMay be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned \nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent with 6 months of experience as a Hematology Lab Aide and/or 2-, 3- or 4- year degree in science-related field preferred. \nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nLaboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred \nAttention to detail \nAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced environment \nAbility to work independently and as part of a team \nAbility to learn new assignments efficiently and support the work of other teams during low demand periods \nCommunication skills, both verbal and written \nPositive, can-do attitude \nBasic math, interpretive and analytical skills. \nStrong data entryskills required \nPersonal computer skills, proficient use of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software \nWorking Conditions\nStationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours \nConstantly operates acomputer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently. \nOccasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch \nRequired to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. \nThe ability to observe details at close range \nExtended hours may be needed \nLaboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE \nPotential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
