At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.\nPURPOSE OF JOB:\nThe Hematology Technician IV performs laboratory analyses and tests. Prepares samples, sets up instruments, runs tests and reads, interprets and releases results.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nSets up and runs lab tests\n\nRead and releases test results.\n\nRead all manual CBC, Avian and Exotic slides\n\nRead UA slides at a minimum rate of 45 per hour, bacteria and path review slides at a rate of 50 slides per hour.\n\nBuild hematology and UA loads.\n\nPerform all required quality control per QA guidelines including all instrument maintenance and temperature charts.\n\nFind missing specimens. Print and reconcile queue list.\n\nMay assist with training new hires.\n\nKnowledge of lab equipment and procedures.\n\nAwareness of quality control and calibration.\n\nCross-train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.\n\nApplies job skills and lab policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.\n\nReads, understands and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies as needed.\n\nParticipates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.\n\nConsult with senior peers on non-complex Hematology tasks to learn through experience.\n\nMay be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned.\n\nWe share a collaborative obligation to ensure that we conduct ourselves in the utmost ethical manner and that we hold each other accountable to the values and standards of the organization. Antech Diagnostics has several processes in place to communicate with leadership and expects that employees will have a commitment to integrity and uncompromising values.\n\nEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:\nBS Degree in Biology or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent, with 2 years’ experience reading abnormal differentials in high volume operations.\nREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\nLaboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments preferred but not required.\n\nKnowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Parasitology procedures and equipment helpful.\n\nGeneral science background\n\nAttention to detail\n\nOrganized with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment\n\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team\n\nCommunication skills, both verbal and written\n\nPositive, can-do attitude\n\nKnowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate\n\nPersonal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office\n\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nExtensive standing, phone, and computer use\n\nCapable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours\n\nExtend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers\n\nOccasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch\n\nMay be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.\n\nSpecific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.\n\nHearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person\n\nAbility to communicate verbally on the phone and in person\n\nFluency in the English language\n\nExtended hours may be needed\n\nWORK ENVIRONMENT:\nLaboratory environment with potential biohazards present\n\nNormally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments.\n\nWork under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.\n\nPotential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
