Join our team!\n The Electrical Design Engineer is a self-starter who balances multiple projects on defined timelines and engage with inter-company teams to refine the product requirements. Job duties include:\nCombine individual circuit modules and subsystems into cohesive instrument designs, ensuring interoperability, performance, and compliance with CE, UL, and CSA standards.\nDevelop and optimize multi-layer PCBs in Zuken for simple, reliable electronics, balancing compactness with signal integrity and EMC/EMI compliance.\nCreate clear, modular schematics reflecting modern design patterns and select components focused on simplicity, availability, and cost-effectiveness.\nModel and document cable assemblies with CAD cable models and detailed drawings, specifying routing, standardized connectors, and comprehensive BOMs.\nInterface temperature, pressure, optical, and limit switch sensors, ensuring accurate signal acquisition and seamless subsystem communication.\nImplement and troubleshoot digital communication protocols (Ethernet, USB, CAN, I2C, RS485, RS232) to enable reliable data exchange across instrument subsystems.\nImplement shielding, board-level filtering, and ground-plane architectures to meet CISPR/IEC standards.\nManage power path design, budgeting, grounding, shielding, and cabling to maintain signal integrity and system safety.\nBuild and test NSP instrument prototypes using bench-top instruments (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.), verifying functionality of integrated modules and refining designs for product readiness.\nDevelop and execute validation plans to confirm overall instrument performance under real-world conditions.\nSeek and apply modern solutions-such as modular design, standardized interfaces, and automation on test benches-to streamline design cycles, accelerate development, and reduce BOM complexity.\nMay be required to travel domestically or internationally (< 5%).\nAll other duties as assigned.\n The Electrical Design Engineer typically needs a combination of education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:\nBachelor of Science (B.S) in Electrical Engineering\nMinimum of 3 years of professional electrical design experience for analytical or scientific instrumentation productization\nHands-on expertise with multi-layer PCB schematic capture and layout in Zuken or equivalent\nDeep understanding of analog front-end design (low-noise amplifiers, ADC/DAC integration, sensor signal conditioning)\nDemonstrated skill in digital interfaces and communication protocols (SPI, I²C, UART, CAN)\nExperience specifying and validating components for reliability, environmental ruggedness, and regulatory compliance (CE/UL/CSA)\nExpertise in EMC/EMI mitigation techniques (shielding, board-level filtering, ground-plane strategies) to ensure regulatory compliance and reliable operation in noisy or regulated environments.\nStrong proficiency in writing and reviewing design documentation: schematics, BOMs, test plans, and compliance reports\nHistory of collaborating with systems, mechanical, software, firmware, and test teams\nExcellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team\nPreferred skills include:\nMS in Electrical Engineering\nMinimum of 5 years of professional electrical design experience for analytical or scientific instrumentation productization\nProven track record in productizing lab-grade or functional prototypes-driving DFM/DFT reviews, robustness hardening, and transfer from R&D into NPI.\nTrack record of component cost-optimization, alternate-sourcing strategies, and collaborating with procurement to manage long-lead items.\nHands-on experience performing DFMEA and failure-mode analysis to identify, document, and mitigate potential design and process risks before production release.\nBasic understanding of thermal management (heat sinking, airflow) and enclosure design trade-offs affecting EMI and environmental ruggedness.\nKnowledge of MEMS sensors and devices\nExperience with high vacuum technology and systems\n Supervision Exercised\nThis role is an independent contributor who is a member of multiple teams, and does not have any direct supervision of staff.\nPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions\nWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment.
