This is a hands-on development role: you’ll write Java and Spring Boot code every day, design APIs and data models, and work closely with your Team Lead, frontend developers, and cross-functional partners to deliver secure, reliable solutions. You’ll also bring strong, practical AI skills, using AI coding assistants and agents every day to design, build, test, and ship. It’s a great fit for a developer who thrives in fast-paced, agile environments and enjoys learning from and helping teammates.\nEssential Functions and Responsibilities\nDesign, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.\nWork hands-on with AI coding assistants and agents in your daily development, from implementation through testing, code review, and debugging.\nBuild and integrate RESTful and SOAP-based services, including modern authentication (SAML, PingFederate).\nDesign data models and write efficient queries across relational and NoSQL databases.\nBuild on AWS services such as EC2, S3, SNS, Secrets Manager, and Cognito.\nWrite automated unit and integration tests for the functionality you develop.\nDocument and test APIs using Postman and Swagger.\nTurn business requirements into clean, secure, and maintainable code.\nTroubleshoot and resolve issues across development, staging, and production.\nContribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and team best practices, including how the team uses AI tools.\nCollaborate with your Team Lead, frontend developers, and cross-functional teams to deliver on commitments.\nWhat success looks like\nDelivery: you consistently ship well-tested services and features that meet requirements and land on time\nCode quality: your code is clean, secure, and maintainable, and holds up well in code review\nAI-assisted development: you use AI coding tools and agents effectively and safely, and share what works with the team\nAPI quality: the APIs you build are well designed, documented, and tested through Postman and Swagger, and easy for frontend and integration partners to consume\nPerformance and reliability: your services and queries perform well and hold up under real-world load\nTesting: automated unit and integration tests cover the functionality you build\nStability: you help identify and resolve issues across development, staging, and production\nRequired Skills, Education, and Experience\nA Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field\nAt least 5 years of experience in backend application development\nStrong, hands-on use of AI in software development: coding assistants and agents (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor), agentic workflows, and AI-assisted testing, debugging, and code review. You should be able to demonstrate this live, with real examples of how it has made you more effective\nGood judgment on AI output: knowing when to trust it, how to verify it, and how to keep code quality, security, and maintainability high\nStrong proficiency in Java and the Spring / Spring Boot framework\nExperience designing and building REST, JSON, GraphQL, and SOAP APIs and integrations\nSolid experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB, including data modeling and query performance\nHands-on experience with AWS, including EC2, S3, SNS, Secrets Manager, and Cognito\nExperience with authentication and authorization, including protocols such as SAML and PingFederate\nExperience with API design and testing (Postman, Swagger) and testing automation, including automated unit and integration tests\nExperience with Git and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions)\nGood communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Node.js.\nContainerization with Docker.\nDevOps tools and automation frameworks such as Ansible.\nKnowledge of monitoring tools such as CloudWatch and Datadog.\nFamiliarity with a frontend framework such as Angular or React.\nFamiliarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.\nExperience with legacy-to-modern tech migrations.\nAWS Developer certification.\nPosition Type and Expected Hours of Work\nThis is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, during normal core business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.\nCompensation\nThe good faith compensation range for this role is $125,000 - $135,000 CAD annually. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
