Senior Backend Engineer for Foundation group

Apify is the largest marketplace of tools for AI. On Apify Store, tens of thousands of Actors, purpose-built tools for the web, help people and AI agents get real-time data, track competitors, generate leads, and connect apps. Anyone can build one and earn from it.

Apify is looking for a Backend Engineer for the Foundation group. The Foundation group takes care of the core of the Apify platform, both for product and tech.

What the group is responsible for:

• Running Actors end-to-end, from the Start button in the Console to the container or microVM running on our servers.

• Storages where the Actors save their progress or output, from the underlying databases to the frontend, rendering the storage contents.

• Actor Standby, our way of deploying Actors as real-time, synchronous services.

• Apify Proxy and Unblocker, our services to avoid being blocked while accessing the internet

• Our public API (the framework, not each individual endpoint).

• Our Console (the framework, not every feature in it).

• The AWS infrastructure on which all the Apify platform apps are deployed.

• The deployment process of those apps.

You’d be joining a small cross-functional team with other experienced hackers focused on backend services in this department.

Who we're looking for:

• A strong technical background or a great professional track record. We are looking for exceptional candidates, no matter the seniority.

• 3+ years of industry experience building backend systems and APIs.

• Great skills at developing and debugging in TypeScript/Node.js, or having this skill in some other programming language, and are able to learn anything quickly.

• Familiarity with Linux.

• Experience with AWS, other public clouds, and any technology mentioned above is a plus.

• Experiment-driven and collaborative mindset.

• Good communication skills in English.

• Infra: AWS Compute (Kubernetes (EKS), EC2, Lambda), Helm, Terraform, CloudFormation, ArgoCD, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, S3, GitHub Actions

• Monitoring: Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Mezmo, Sentry, PagerDuty

• Frontend: React.js, styled-components, Storybook, Chromatic, Cypress, Playwright

• Backend: TypeScript/Node.js, Nest.js, Next.js, Docusaurus, Vitest

• Tools: GitHub, Notion, Google Workspace, Slack

• OS, code editor, and AI assistant of your choice (Claude premium with unlimited tokens, GH Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, or JetBrains AI)

• Process: two-week sprints, code reviews, tests, automating whatever we can, and deploying multiple times per day.
