You're also still in the code, making technical decisions and shipping alongside your team.\nWhat You'll Do\nPeople & Team (40-60%)\nBuild the team - Hire and onboard E1-E3 engineers\n\nDevelop your people - Run effective 1:1s, give direct feedback, write performance reviews, and coach career growth\n\nFoster culture - Build psychological safety, ownership, and accountability within the squad\n\nShield the team - Remove blockers, handle noise, and keep the squad focused on delivery\n\nTechnical (40-60%)\nStay hands-on - Write code, review PRs, and contribute to technical decisions\n\nOwn delivery - Ensure the squad delivers on commitments with high quality and predictable velocity\n\nDrive quality - Champion testing, observability, and engineering best practices\n\nHandle incidents - Own squad-level incidents and postmortems\n\nLeverage AI - Use AI tools daily for code reviews, design drafts, and debugging; teach the squad effective AI usage\n\nPlanning & Alignment\nRun the squad - Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives\n\nAlign with product - Partner with PMs and designers to translate requirements into deliverable work\n\nCommunicate up - Represent the squad in planning, cross-team syncs, and leadership discussions\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nExperience\n4+ years in software engineering\n\n1+ years managing or leading a team (formal or informal)\n\nTechnical\nStrong technical background-you can guide architecture discussions and code reviews\n\nFamiliar with modern development practices: CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), observability\n\nComfortable with our stack or similar: Java/Spring, Angular/React, PostgreSQL, AWS, DataDog\n\nStill enjoys being in the code and staying technically sharp\n\nAI Fluency\nUses AI tools (Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) daily for code reviews, design drafts, and debugging\n\nTeaches squad effective AI usage and best practices\n\nExperiments with AI to accelerate team delivery and quality\n\nLeadership & People\nExperience running 1:1s and giving direct, kind feedback\n\nTrack record of developing engineers and helping them grow\n\nServant leadership mindset-you enable others to do their best work\n\nBuilds trust, psychological safety, and ownership culture\n\nCommunication\nClear communicator with engineers, PMs, and leadership\n\nSets expectations and provides continuous feedback\n\nWorking knowledge of English for cross-team collaboration (required)\n\nMindset\nComfortable balancing people and technical responsibilities\n\nThrives in ambiguity; makes smart trade-offs with incomplete information\n\nCares about both business outcomes and engineering excellence\n\nNice to Have\nExperience in fintech, payments, or high-growth startups\n\nBackground scaling or building teams from scratch\n\nFamiliarity with engineering career frameworks and coaching practices\n\nOn-call and incident management experience\n\nOur Stack\nJava/Spring, Python, Go · Angular, React · PostgreSQL, MongoDB · AWS (ECS, Lambda) · DataDog · Pulumi · Jenkins\nWhy Aplazo\nOur mission is to empower financial access and opportunity across Latin America through fair, simple, and transparent solutions.
