The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams through complex start-up activities.\nPosition Details\nLocation: Edmonton, AB\nWork Environment: Project field-based\nDuration: December 7, 2026 - December 6, 2027\nHours: 40 hours per week w/ potential OT\nEmployment Type: Contract\nKey Responsibilities\nElectrical Commissioning & Start-Up\nLead and execute static and dynamic commissioning activities, including continuity checks, insulation resistance (Megger) testing, functional performance testing and VFD programming.\nCoordinate and execute electrical commissioning, testing and energization activities in accordance with the Commissioning Execution Plan.\nSupport EHT (Electric Heat Tracing) testing and validation.\nParticipate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), documenting deficiencies and ensuring resolution.\nAct as the electrical subject matter expert throughout commissioning and start-up activities.\nSystem Completion & Documentation\nUnderstand the completions process, identify system scoping requirements and establish commissioning priorities.\nParticipate in inspections, system walkdowns, punch list development and mitigation planning.\nMaintain commissioning test records, check sheets and technical documentation.\nPrepare daily progress reports for the CSU Electrical Coordinator.\nEnsure commissioning documentation is properly collected, filed and archived in accordance with project requirements.\nAssist with reviewing and updating commissioning plans, procedures and strategies.\nTechnical Troubleshooting & Coordination\nConduct detailed electrical equipment inspections, including switchgear, transformers, automatic transfer switches (ATS) and UPS systems.\nTroubleshoot electrical issues and deficiencies during commissioning and start-up.\nInterpret vendor settings, P&IDs, isometric drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical and instrumentation drawings, loop diagrams and technical manuals.\nTrack and coordinate red-line drawing changes.\nIdentify, schedule and coordinate vendors and contractors on site, monitoring progress and addressing technical issues.\nDirect electrical and instrumentation resources to resolve deficiencies.\nLeadership & Collaboration\nWork as part of an integrated field leadership team, preparing equipment and systems for first-time start-up.\nCoordinate with vendors, contractors, project managers and other disciplines to support successful system integration and handover.\nProvide technical guidance, mentorship and knowledge-sharing to less experienced team members.\nSupport commissioning activities across electrical, piping, mechanical, controls, instrumentation and automation systems.\nQualifications & Experience\nJourneyman Electrician certification with an Interprovincial Red Seal endorsement.\nApproximately 10 years of relevant electrical industry experience.\nMinimum 5 years leading electrical, instrumentation and automated equipment commissioning and start-up activities.\nStrong experience commissioning electrical, instrumentation, automated electrical/mechanical equipment and process control systems.\nExperience with industrial facilities, including power generation, chemical processing, industrial gases or similar environments.\nExperience with protection relay testing, interlock verification, VFDs, transformer testing, high-voltage substation energization and EHT systems.\nStrong understanding of automated equipment commissioning.\nExperience working within major industrial projects with rigorous corporate safety and environmental requirements.\nAbility to interpret complex electrical drawings, technical specifications and vendor documentation.\nStrong leadership, communication, troubleshooting and coordination skills.\nIndustry Experience Considered an Asset\nExperience in any of the following environments would be highly valued:\nIndustrial gas facilities.\nPower generation.\nChemical processing facilities.\nCryogenic technologies.\nAir separation units.\nSyngas facilities.\nCarbon capture (CO?) projects.\nRequired Safety Certifications\nCandidates must hold current safety training and certifications, including:\nConstruction Safety Training System (CSTS-20).\nBasic Scaffold Safety.\nFall Protection.\nConfined Space Entry and Monitoring.\nWHMIS.\nH?S Alive.\nWhy Work with Aplin?\nAplin connects skilled professionals with meaningful opportunities across Canada’s leading industries.
