The successful candidate will play a key role in the initial start-up, testing and stabilization of the Air Separation Unit, ensuring equipment and systems are safely commissioned and brought to full production capacity in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.\nPosition Details\nLocation: Edmonton, AB\nWork Environment: Project field-based\nDuration: December 7, 2026 - December 6, 2027\nHours: 40 hours per week\nEmployment Type: Contract\nPay Type: Hourly\nKey Responsibilities\nCommissioning & Start-Up\nSupport the commissioning and start-up of the Air Separation Unit (ASU), including initial equipment start-up, testing and operational stabilization.\nWork closely with the ASU Commissioning Coordinator to understand commissioning and start-up plans, system commissioning packages and procedures.\nExecute commissioning and start-up procedures to ensure equipment is safely energized, tested and operating according to design specifications.\nSupport Construction Complete (CC) and Mechanical Complete (MC) system walkdowns.\nInstall energy isolations and issue Safety Work Permits (SWPs), as required.\nFollow direction from the ASU CSU Coordinator and provide daily progress reports.\nField Operations & Technical Support\nSupport the commissioning of critical cryogenic equipment, including main and booster air compressors, companders, cryogenic pumps and cold box cooldown.\nTroubleshoot equipment and verify system performance throughout commissioning and start-up activities.\nRedline Operations Site Work Instruction Manuals (SWIMs), also known as Operating Procedures, to reflect operational requirements and updates.\nSupport and manage vendors and contractors while on-site, monitoring progress and addressing technical issues.\nEnsure field activities are completed in accordance with Air Products safety standards and project procedures.\nApply hands-on operational knowledge to support safe and efficient commissioning activities.\nLeadership, Training & Collaboration\nWork closely with commissioning coordinators, vendors, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.\nShare commissioning experience, technical knowledge and operational expertise with less experienced team members.\nProvide mentorship and guidance to other members of the commissioning team.\nSupport the training and competency development of Operations personnel.\nAssist with the transition of the ASU from commissioning and start-up into operational readiness.\nQualifications & Experience\n 4th Class Power Engineer certification (minimum required).\nMinimum 3-5 years of hands-on operating experience with cryogenic Air Separation Units (ASUs).\nPrevious experience in an industrial project commissioning or start-up role is highly preferred.\nStrong understanding of cryogenic air separation processes and operations.\nKnowledge of distillation processes and molecular sieve technology, including Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA).\nExperience troubleshooting industrial equipment and supporting complex commissioning activities.\nUnderstanding of Safety Work Permits (SWPs) and energy isolation procedures.\nKnowledge of high-pressure pure oxygen systems, including cleanliness protocols and associated safety requirements.\nTechnical Experience Considered an Asset\nExperience or technical knowledge in the following areas would be highly valued:\nCryogenic Air Separation Units (ASUs).\nCryogenic distillation processes.\nMolecular sieve technology and Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA).\nMain and booster air compressors.\nCompanders and cryogenic pumps.\nCold box commissioning and cooldown procedures.\nHigh-pressure pure oxygen systems and oxygen cleanliness requirements.\nIndustrial gas processing facilities.\nRequired Safety Certifications\nCandidates must hold current safety training and certifications, including:\nConstruction Safety Training System (CSTS-20).\nBasic Scaffold Safety.\nFall Protection.\nConfined Space Entry & Monitoring.\nWHMIS.\nH?S Alive.\nWhy Work with Aplin?\nAplin connects skilled professionals with meaningful opportunities across Canada’s leading industries.
