This role will focus on the commissioning, initial start-up, testing and stabilization of gas turbine and steam turbine generator systems.\nPosition Details\nLocation: Edmonton, AB\nContract Duration: 1 year\nSchedule: 40 hours per week\nJob Level: Level IV\nWork Environment: Project field-based\nEmployment Type: Contract\nKey Responsibilities\nCommissioning Preparation\nWork with the Commissioning Coordinator to understand commissioning and start-up plans for the Power Block.\nReview system commissioning packages, procedures and technical documentation.\nComplete required commissioning operator training and competency validation.\nComplete site-specific safety and work permit training.\nField Commissioning & Start-up\nSupport Construction Complete (CC) and Mechanical Complete (MC) walkdowns.\nSupport equipment energization, installation of energy isolations and site work permit requirements.\nExecute commissioning and start-up procedures in coordination with vendors, engineering and the commissioning team.\nOversee chemical cleaning and flushing of equipment, including heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) and lube oil systems.\nPerform initial cold and hot commissioning, functional testing and trial runs of gas turbine generators (GTGs).\nSupport commissioning of steam turbine generators (STGs), condensers and cooling water systems.\nSupport steam line blowing and initial steam turbine roll and heat-up activities.\nParticipate in overspeed testing, synchronization and load progression.\nSupport reliability testing of gas and steam turbine generators.\nAssist with electrical testing of excitation systems, static frequency converters and generators.\nUpdate operating procedures and technical documentation as required.\nProvide daily progress reports and communicate commissioning issues.\nTroubleshoot equipment and verify system performance against design specifications.\nSupport the training of Operations personnel to ensure a smooth transition into ongoing operations.\nShare commissioning and start-up knowledge, providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.\nQualifications & Experience\nMinimum 4th Class Power Engineer certification.\n3-5 years of hands-on operating experience with Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) and/or Steam Turbine Generators (STGs) is a strong asset.\nPrevious commissioning and start-up experience with turbine generator equipment is highly preferred.\nStrong technical understanding of gas turbine and/or steam turbine generator operation.\nExperience with functional testing, equipment start-up, troubleshooting and reliability testing.\nAbility to work effectively with vendors, engineering teams, contractors and operations personnel.\nStrong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.\nCommitment to safe work practices in an industrial project environment.\nRequired Safety Certifications\nCandidates must hold the following current safety certifications:\nConstruction Safety Training System (CSTS-20)\nBasic Scaffold Safety (CSTS-20)\nFall Protection\nConfined Space Entry & Monitoring\nWHMIS\nH?S Alive\nWhy Work with Aplin?\nAplin connects skilled professionals with meaningful opportunities across Canada’s leading industries.
