Senior Full Stack Engineer (Backend-Focused)

About You

You are a Senior Full Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus who combines deep technical expertise with solid software engineering fundamentals. You excel at understanding complex systems, navigating existing codebases independently, and delivering scalable, production-ready solutions with minimal guidance.

You take ownership of technical challenges, proactively identify risks before they become blockers, and make sound engineering decisions based on architectural principles rather than relying on external guidance. You collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and help ensure backend development stays ahead of frontend needs. You are passionate about building maintainable software, continuously improving engineering practices, and contributing across both backend and frontend development.

You Bring to Applaudo the Following Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is desired, or equivalent professional experience.
• 6+ years of professional experience as a Full Stack Engineer, Backend Engineer, or Software Engineer.
• Strong professional experience building and maintaining backend applications using Python.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of software architecture layered application design, and software engineering best practices.
• Experience building serverless applications using AWS Lambda.
• Experience working with MongoDB.
• Experience contributing to frontend development using Vue.js, TypeScript, and modern frontend frameworks.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and production support skills.
• Experience working with Git and Agile development methodologies.
• Proven ability to quickly understand existing codebases, identify technical risks, troubleshoot independently, and contribute effectively within established architectures without requiring continuous guidance.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions, ask the right questions early, and proactively resolve blockers before they impact delivery.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate technical challenges and propose effective solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to independently understand existing codebases, business requirements, and technical documentation.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Advanced English proficiency.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with AWS API Gateway.
• Experience with Serverless Framework or AWS SAM.
• Experience with Auth0 or Amazon Cognito.
• Experience with WebSockets or other real-time communication protocols.
• Experience using JetBrains IDEs (PyCharm or IntelliJ).

You Will Be Accountable for the Following Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and AWS Lambda.
• Build, maintain, and optimize RESTful APIs supporting cloud-based applications and integrations.
• Analyze technical requirements and deliver high-quality solutions with minimal supervision.
• Independently analyze existing systems, understand business requirements, and implement solutions without relying on extensive technical guidance.
• Develop software following established architectural standards and engineering best practices.
• Debug, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain production systems.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to deliver reliable APIs and end-to-end functionality.
• Participate in code reviews and proactively identify technical improvements and risks.
• Proactively identify architectural concerns, potential blockers, and improvement opportunities before they impact project delivery.
• Contribute to frontend development using Vue.js as part of a full stack engineering team.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and engineering teams to clarify technical requirements early and ensure successful implementation.
• Communicate effectively with technical stakeholders and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• 6+ years of experience as a Full Stack or Backend Software Engineer.
• Strong experience with Python, REST APIs, AWS Lambda, and MongoDB.
• Experience with Vue.js, TypeScript, Git, and Agile development.
• Strong software architecture, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced English proficiency.
