We’re just getting started\nAs a Forward Deployed Full Stack Engineer, your job is to make Orbital work in the real world. You will deploy, configure, customise, and operationalise Orbital’s applications inside customer environments, spanning cloud, on-premise, hybrid, and air-gapped infrastructure.\nYou are not building generic platform features for abstraction. You are ensuring Orbital is usable, integrated, secure, and production-ready inside complex enterprise ecosystems.\nYou’ll work directly with customer IT, OT, data, and engineering teams adapting interfaces, extending APIs, integrating identity systems, and troubleshooting deployments live in production.\nOperating Context\nForward Deployed Engineers operate in pods of three alongside:\nML / AI Engineers\nData Engineers\nEach pod delivers 2-3 customer deployments per quarter, owning application deployment, integration, customisation, and operational reliability. You will be required to travel.\nStrong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Node.js) and back-end frameworks (FastAPI, Express, Django).\nSolid working knowledge of Python for scripting, APIs, and data integration.\nExperience building containerised microservices (Docker, Kubernetes).\nFamiliarity with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).\nFamiliarity working with databases like PostgresSQL etc.\nProficiency with Linux environments (deployment, debugging, performance tuning).\nBonus: exposure to time-series/industrial data and operator-facing dashboards.\nBonus: exposure working as a software engineer in oil and gas or energy environments\nStrong troubleshooting mindset in production systems.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nOrbital applications are fully deployed in customer environments.\nInterfaces are actively used by operators and engineers.\nIdentity, security, and infra integrations work seamlessly.\nDeployments run reliably across cloud and on-prem systems.\nCustomer-specific extensions are delivered rapidly when required.\nApplication telemetry and monitoring are production-grade.\n1) Application Deployment & Customisation\nDeploy Orbital’s full-stack applications into customer environments (cloud, on-prem, hybrid).\nConfigure customer-specific application environments, networking, and access layers.\nCustomise UI components, workflows, and feature configurations per customer use case.\nImplement customer branding, report templates, and UX adaptations.\nEnsure applications remain usable in control rooms, engineering offices, and operational settings.\n2) Frontend Engineering (Customer-Facing Systems)\nDevelop real-time streaming in collaboration with frontend engineer (in Svelte / SvelteKit) dashboards for AI inference and anomaly monitoring.\nImplement chat interfaces integrated with LLM services.\nConfigure WebSocket pipelines for live model outputs.\nAdapt UI/UX for industrial workflows (operators, APC engineers, technologists).\n3) Backend Services & API Integration\nDeploy and extend FastAPI microservices.\nConfigure and customise REST and GraphQL (Strawberry) APIs.\nImplement customer-specific business logic and integrations.\nConnect application services to ML inference endpoints and data services.\nExtend APIs when customer systems require bespoke contracts.\n4) Identity, Security & Enterprise Integration\nIntegrate Orbital with customer identity providers:\no SSO\no SAML\no OAuth\nImplement role-based access controls.\nConfigure tenant isolation and enterprise security requirements.\nWork with customer IT to satisfy firewall, network, and compliance constraints.\n5) Database & Application Data Layer\nDeploy and manage PostgreSQL schemas.\nRun Alembic migrations across environments.\nOptimise queries for production performance.\nConfigure customer-specific schema mappings where required.\n6) Infrastructure & DevOps (Application Layer)\nOwn application deployment infrastructure:\no Kubernetes\no Helm charts\no Docker services\nManage application-level Terraform / Terragrunt provisioning.\nConfigure CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).\nDeploy services via container orchestration.\nTroubleshoot scaling, ingress, and service routing issues.\n7) Observability & Production Reliability\nConfigure application monitoring via Grafana dashboards.\nImplement logging, alerting, and SLA monitoring.\nSupport Prometheus metrics integrations.\nDebug production incidents in customer environments.\n8) Customer Deployment & Forward Engineering\nWork directly with customer IT / OT / Engineering teams.\nDeploy into air-gapped and tightly firewalled networks.\nTroubleshoot infrastructure, networking, and application failures.\nBuild customer-specific extensions when core product configs are insufficient.\nSupport onboarding, upgrades, and operational
