Role Responsibilities:\nControls & Systems Engineer (Linux / EPICS / DCS/SCADA Focus)\nApplied Materials has an immediate need for an Engineer focused on advanced controls, Linux system administration, and distributed control systems supporting complex instrumentation platforms. This role emphasizes EPICS integration, scalable infrastructure, and modern DCS/SCADA architectures. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, deployment, maintenance, and support of advanced instrumentation and control platforms, working closely with engineering, IT, and scientific teams.\nThe Ideal Candidate will:\nGather and document system requirements and maintain version-controlled designs\nAdminister Linux-based control environments (servers, IOCs, containers)\nLead development and deployment of EPICS or DCS/SCADA systems\nDesign and integrate distributed control architectures • Develop EPICS IOCs and operator interfaces (Phoebus, CSS)\nImplement automation using tools such as Ansible • Monitor system performance, reliability, and cybersecurity\nEstablish documentation, standards, and training materials\nPerform system validation, testing, and troubleshooting • Support virtualization and container-based deployments\nRequired Skills:\nStrong Linux system administration experience\nExperience with EPICS or similar DCS/SCADA frameworks\nExperience with automation tools (Ansible, scripting)\nKnowledge of networking and distributed systems\nProficiency in Python or Bash\nExperience with Git/version control\nStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills Preferred Skills:\nEPICS IOC development and StreamDevice\nPhoebus or CSS UI development\nVirtualization/container platforms (Proxmox, VMware, Docker, Kubernetes) Real-time or near-real-time systems experience\nHardware interface integration\nCybersecurity practices for control systems\nScientific or industrial instrumentation experience\nQualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience).\nAbout Applied Materials: Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions used to produce virtually every new chip and advanced display in the world.
