Learn more about our benefits.\nAs a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications. You will oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations-- and you'll coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects, identifying sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve technical issues.Key Responsibilities\nOwn the full design lifecycle of mechanical assemblies: concept, feasibility, detailed design, prototype, test, qualification and release to manufacturing.\nDesign precision mechanisms such as lens and mirror mounts, kinematic mounts, flexures, alignment stages and optical benches.\nDo engineering calculations and analysis, including tolerance stack-ups, stress and deflection, thermal expansion, stiffness, vibration and natural frequency.\nRun FEA (structural, thermal, modal) to validate designs and guide trade-offs.\nApply GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and create complete 3D models, detailed drawings and BOMs.\nWrite test plans and qualification protocols, run testing, analyze data and drive root cause and corrective actions.\nLead design reviews (PDR/CDR) and maintain design documentation, DFMEA and design verification reports.\nApply DFM/DFA principles and work with suppliers on manufacturability, cost and lead time.\nDeliver work on schedule and to quality and cost targets, and communicate status and risks clearly.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).\n5+ years of mechanical design experience.\nStrong SPM (Special Purpose Machine) design background, from concept to detailed design.\nStrong engineering fundamentals and calculation skills: mechanics, strength of materials, machine design, heat transfer.\nProficiency in 3D CAD and PLM tools.\nWorking knowledge of FEA tools (ANSYS or equivalent).\nSound knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials and manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, surface treatments).\nProven ownership of design testing and qualification.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in semiconductor capital equipment, metrology, inspection or optical systems.\nKnowledge of optical alignment, opto-mechanical tolerancing and thermal/vibration stability.\nExposure to cleanroom and vacuum compatible design and materials.\nFamiliarity with motion systems, precision stages and actuators.\nExperience with DFMEA, DOE and statistical data analysis.\nBehavioral Competencies\nProfessionalism: high integrity, accountable and dependable.\nCommitment to delivery: consistently meets schedules and quality targets.\nOwnership: takes full responsibility for subsystem outcomes.\nAnalytical thinking: makes decisions from data and calculations.\nCollaboration: communicates well across functions and with suppliers.\nContinuous learning: keeps up with new tools, materials and methods.\nAdditional Information\nTime Type:\nFull timeEmployee Type:\nAssignee / RegularTravel:\nYes, 10% of the TimeRelocation Eligible:\nYesApplied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
