Learn more about our benefits.\nAs a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications. You will oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations-- and you'll coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects, identifying sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve technical issues.The Technical Facilities Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building infrastructure and critical facility systems. This role oversees technical maintenance programs, vendor performance, regulatory compliance, and the lifecycle management of equipment across Applied Materials facilities. The Technical Facilities Manager acts as a subject-matter expert for mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and life safety systems while supporting strategic planning for long-term facility sustainability and resilience.\nKey Responsibilities\n1. Technical Operations & Maintenance\nOversee operation, maintenance, and optimization of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility systems consistent with standards reflected in engineering roles.\n\nDevelop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all critical facility assets.\n\nTroubleshoot system failures and coordinate corrective actions to ensure uptime and system reliability.\n\n2. Regulatory & Safety Compliance\nEnsure compliance with all federal, state, local, and internal facility and EHS standards, including documentation requirements noted in EHS guidelines.\n\nOversee inspection, testing, and maintenance of Fire Life Safety Systems (FLSS).\n\nMaintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and system performance logs.\n\n3. Project Management\nManage and support facilities projects, including equipment installation, building modifications, utilities upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.\n\nCoordinate planning, feasibility assessments, and execution of facilities service requests.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional partners on technical project scopes, vendor activities, and commissioning.\n\n4. Vendor & Contract Oversight\nManage technical service providers, including cleanroom services, equipment maintenance vendors, and specialty contractors.\n\nDefine and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and performance standards.\n\nSupport sourcing and contract negotiations for technical services.\n\n5. Energy Management & Sustainability\nIdentify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and support sustainability initiatives.\n\nEvaluate equipment upgrades, system optimization strategies, and emerging technologies to reduce energy consumption.\n\n6. Emergency Response & Reliability\nMaintain and update emergency response plans for critical systems.\n\nOversee backup power systems, emergency generators, and redundancy planning.\n\nEnsure minimum downtime and prompt recovery after system disturbances.\n\n7. Leadership & Training\nProvide technical guidance to facility engineers, technicians, and contractors.\n\nDeliver training on new systems, safety standards, and operating procedures.\n\nFoster a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.\n\n8.Workplace & Soft Services Management\nOversee soft service operations, including janitorial, landscaping, waste services, reception, and workplace hospitality programs.\n\nPartner with workplace services teams to ensure smooth day-to-day building operations and a high-quality employee experience.\n\nManage vendor performance for soft services, including SLAs, KPIs, and regular oversight walks.\n\nSupport space planning, move coordination, and workplace activations as needed.\n\nThe Candidate will have the Following:\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or related field preferred.\n\n10+ years of experience in facilities engineering, technical operations, or critical infrastructure management.\n\nSemiconductor, industrial, R&D, or high-tech facility experience strongly preferred.\n\nTo Succeed in this Role Requires:\nStrong technical knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical distribution, chilled water, life safety, mechanical systems, controls).\n\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.\n\nStrong leadership, communication, and vendor management skills.\n\nExcellent problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and decision-making abilities.\n\nAdditional Information\nTime Type:\nFull timeEmployee Type:\nAssignee / RegularTravel:\nYes, 10% of the TimeRelocation Eligible:\nNoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
