(ATS) is seeking a Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineer to provide materials expertise for programs spanning research and development (R&D), system-level design, manufacturing, and testing.\nAs a member of an interdisciplinary design team, the engineer will support materials selection, evaluation of materials standards, and manufacturing workflow development. This role will also support research and development through literature reviews, process development, materials characterization, and testing.\nPrimary Duties and Responsibilities\nProvide materials and processes engineering support for system and component design, manufacturing, integration, and testing.\nCollaborate with an interdisciplinary design team to evaluate materials and processes against program and application requirements.\nSupport materials selection and evaluate applicable materials standards and specifications.\nCapture stakeholder needs and translate them into verifiable system requirements.\nApply materials engineering principles related to metallurgy, ceramics, or composites, including strengthening mechanisms, fracture mechanics, and thermal response.\nSupport materials characterization, testing, inspection, and evaluation activities.\nDevelop and refine processes and manufacturing workflows for materials testing, inspection, production, and related activities.\nApply working knowledge of nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDT/NDE) methods to support materials and component evaluation.\nUse applicable materials specifications, including ASTM, AWS, and AMS, to define material requirements in technical data package (TDP) documents.\nSupport component and process failure investigations and root cause analysis.\nConduct literature reviews and support R&D and prototyping programs focused on materials production or testing.\nParticipate in hands-on technical activities, including laboratory testing and vehicle integration, as required for program execution.\nCommunicate materials-related requirements, findings, and technical recommendations to interdisciplinary team members.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.\nMinimum of 2 years of experience providing materials and processes support for system or component design activities.\nDemonstrated knowledge of core materials principles in metallurgy, ceramics, or composites, including strengthening mechanisms, fracture mechanics, and thermal response.\nDemonstrated ability to capture stakeholder needs and translate them into verifiable system requirements.\nDemonstrated knowledge of common materials characterization and testing techniques.\nDemonstrated process development experience related to materials testing, inspection, production, or similar activities.\nWorking knowledge of nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDT/NDE) methods.\nWorking knowledge of materials standards and specifications, including ASTM, AWS, and AMS, and their application in technical data package (TDP) documentation.\nExperience supporting component or process failure investigations and root cause analysis.\nExperience supporting R&D or prototyping programs substantially focused on materials production or testing.\nAbility and willingness to perform hands-on technical activities, including vehicle integration and laboratory testing.\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills.\nCurrently possess or have the ability to obtain Security Clearance.\nPreferred Qualifications\n8 or more years of experience providing materials and processes support for system or component design activities.\nDemonstrated experience collaborating with materials vendors to monitor, tailor, or improve processes to meet application requirements for cost, schedule, and performance.\nDemonstrated knowledge of composite and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) manufacturing processes.\nDemonstrated experience supporting thermal protection system (TPS) applications.\nDemonstrated knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM) principles for metal additive manufacturing.\nDemonstrated experience specifying welding processes and procedures.\nDemonstrated experience supporting systems engineering activities for defense systems.\nExperience using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools, such as Cameo.\nDemonstrated experience performing statistical analysis for testing or production using commercial software, such as JMP, or scripting languages, such as Python or MATLAB.\nEqual Employment Opportunity:\nApplied Technology Solutions, Inc.
