You will join a small cohort, receive direct support from senior and principal engineers, and build practical experience across cloud, automation, DevOps, infrastructure, and modern platform engineering.\nAbout Appvia\nAppvia is a self-funded, London-based platform engineering, software, and AI enablement consultancy. We help organisations design, build, and operate modern cloud platforms, improve how software is delivered, and adopt new technologies securely and effectively.\nOur work spans AWS, Azure, platform engineering, software modernisation, Data & AI, delivery, and managed services. We partner with customers across public and private sectors, including organisations operating in complex and highly regulated environments.\nSince the start of 2026, Appvia has grown from around 60 to more than 100 people, driven by new customer demand, the launch of new capabilities, and continued investment in our teams.\nDespite that growth, we remain a close-knit, engineering-led business. Our technical teams are made up predominantly of experienced senior, principal, and leadership-level consultants who enjoy sharing knowledge, solving difficult problems, and helping others develop.\nAs a graduate at Appvia, you will work closely with these engineers rather than being separated into a large junior delivery team. You will be encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, challenge established thinking, and take increasing ownership as your confidence and capability grow.\nThe Appvia Academy experience\nThe Appvia Academy will combine structured development with hands-on project experience.\nYour learning will include:\nPractical experience working on a live cloud and platform engineering programme\nDirect mentoring from senior and principal platform engineers\nStructured technical workshops and learning sessions\nEngineering show-and-tells and knowledge-sharing sessions\nSupport towards relevant AWS and cloud certifications\nAccess to a personal learning and development budget\nRegular feedback, coaching, and development conversations\nA clear but flexible progression pathway within Appvia’s AWS Practice\nExposure to wider areas including software engineering, security, data, AI, and technical consulting\nYou will learn by doing, with support around you and increasing responsibility as you progress.\nAbout the role\nAs a Graduate Platform Engineer, you will help design, build, support, and improve modern cloud platforms used by engineering teams to deliver software securely and efficiently.\nYour first project will be within Appvia’s AWS Practice, supporting a new platform engineering programme for a UK public sector customer.\nWorking alongside experienced consultants, you will develop practical skills across AWS, infrastructure as code, Linux, automation, CI/CD, containers, platform operations, and DevOps practices.\nYou will initially work with close support and guidance. As your experience grows, you will take greater ownership of engineering tasks, technical problem-solving, customer communication, and project delivery.\nYour progression at Appvia\nThe academy is designed to give you strong technical foundations while allowing your career to develop around your interests and strengths.\nYour progression could take you towards:\nAWS platform engineering\nCloud infrastructure and automation\nDevOps and CI/CD engineering\nSite reliability and platform operations\nCloud architecture\nSecurity engineering\nSoftware engineering\nData and AI platform engineering\nTechnical consulting and customer leadership\nYou will have regular development conversations, access to experienced mentors, and opportunities to take on increasingly complex work as your capability grows.\nInterview process\nOur process is designed to understand how you think, learn, communicate, and approach technical problems. We are not expecting graduates to have years of commercial experience.\nScreening and discovery conversation - An initial conversation with our Talent Acquisition team to learn more about you, your interests, and why platform engineering appeals to you.\nAssessment Day and Appvia meet-and-greet - A collaborative assessment in mid-to-late August involving practical exercises, conversations with Appvia engineers, and an opportunity to learn more about the academy, the project, and our culture.\nSecurity clearance\nThe first academy project will support a UK public sector customer. Successful applicants must therefore be eligible to obtain UK Government Security Clearance.\nImportant\nYou must be eligible for SC:\nBritish Passport or ILR\nTo have resided in the UK for at least the last 5 years.\nHave no criminal records.\nHave no financial irregularities.\nRequirements\nWhat you’ll be doing\nSupport the assessment of customer infrastructure, technical requirements, and opportunities for cloud adoption or optimisation\nHelp build, configure, and improve AWS cloud environments and platform services\nContribute to cloud migration, implementation, support, and optimisation activities\nApply DevOps principles and automation techniques to improve deployment and platform management\nAssist with infrastructure as code, scripting, CI/CD pipelines, and repeatable engineering processes\nInvestigate technical issues and provide professional, timely support to users and project teams\nAutomate recurring operational tasks and common support issues\nBuild proofs of concept to explore new technologies, approaches, and potential solutions\nConsider trade-offs between technical, operational, analytical, and customer requirements\nHelp teams improve how they work through DevOps and platform engineering practices\nWork with the platform team to identify engineering tasks and prioritise the backlog\nCollaborate with engineers, delivery managers, customer teams, and other technical specialists\nDocument configurations, decisions, troubleshooting steps, and engineering processes\nParticipate in workshops, technical demonstrations, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions\nContinue developing your understanding of emerging cloud, platform engineering, data, and AI technologies\nAbout you\nWe are looking for curious, motivated graduates and early-career engineers who want to build a career in cloud and platform engineering.\nYou do not need to arrive knowing everything. We are more interested in your ability to learn, solve problems, collaborate with others, and take responsibility for your development.\nYou may have gained relevant experience through university, personal projects, placements, internships, bootcamps, certifications, open-source contributions, or an early technical role.\nYou should bring:\nA genuine interest in cloud technology, software, automation, and platform engineering\nBasic understanding of cloud computing and modern software delivery\nSome experience with programming or scripting, such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or a similar language\nFamiliarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP through coursework, projects, certifications, or practical experience\nBasic experience using Linux or a strong interest in developing it\nGood analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills\nAbility to break down problems and ask for support when needed\nClear written and verbal communication skills\nAbility to work collaboratively within a team containing different levels of experience\nConfidence to contribute ideas and constructively challenge existing approaches\nInitiative, curiosity, and willingness to explore new solutions\nAbility to work independently once given appropriate direction\nA proactive, organised, and calm approach to learning and delivery\nInterest in how AI and automation can improve platform engineering and software delivery\nEducation and experience\nYou should have one of the following:\nA Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or another relevant technical subject.\nAn equivalent technical qualification, apprenticeship, bootcamp, or demonstrable practical experience.\nExposure to cloud computing through a placement, internship, academic project, personal lab, or previous role would be beneficial, but is not essential.\nRelevant certifications are welcome but not required. These could include:\nAWS Certified Cloud Practitioner\nAWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals\nMicrosoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate\nEquivalent AWS, Azure, GCP, Linux, Kubernetes, or DevOps certifications\nBenefits\nWhy join Appvia?\nWe are a self-funded, London-based consultancy, growing rapidly while staying true to what got us here: a human, engineering-led culture built on trust, ownership, and getting things done.\nAs we scale, we’re maturing as a business and expanding into new areas across platform engineering, software, data, and AI.
