The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior International Accountant to join our Global Controllership organization and oversee accounting and financial reporting activities across our international entities, with a primary focus on EMEA and a significant concentration in Belgium. This full-time role is preferably based in Belgium and reports to the Global Accounting Director.

In this role, you will help ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial close and statutory reporting processes across the international organization. You will work closely with local finance teams, third-party accounting providers, external auditors, tax advisors, and Corporate Accounting to meet local accounting requirements while maintaining alignment with Apryse's global accounting policies and US GAAP reporting requirements.

Apryse operates more than 20 international subsidiaries across multiple jurisdictions. You will play an important role in building and maintaining a scalable global controllership organization, with significant responsibility for coordinating accounting activities across multiple countries, currencies, and statutory environments.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting and statutory reporting experience, preferably gained through a combination of public accounting and industry roles. You should be comfortable managing multiple entities and external service providers, identifying and resolving accounting issues, improving processes, and leading and developing junior accounting professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage close calendars and ensure financial results are complete, accurate, and delivered according to corporate deadlines.
  • Review accounting activity prepared by third-party accounting providers and ensure transactions are appropriately recorded.
  • Partner with external accountants to resolve accounting issues and complete month-end close activities on time.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, fixed assets, prepayments, and other key accounting activities.
  • Ensure local accounting records are maintained in accordance with applicable local GAAP requirements and company accounting policies.
  • Coordinate the flow of financial information between local entities, third-party providers, and the Corporate Accounting team.
  • Investigate accounting discrepancies and significant variances and drive timely resolution.
  • Support foreign currency accounting, including foreign currency remeasurement and translation activities.
  • Statutory Financial Reporting

  • Lead or oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements for assigned international entities.
  • Coordinate with third-party accountants and external auditors throughout the year-end statutory reporting process.
  • Review statutory financial statements, supporting schedules, disclosures, and other local reporting requirements.
  • Ensure statutory filings and reporting obligations are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Coordinate audit requests and serve as a key accounting contact for external auditors.
  • Monitor changes in local accounting and statutory reporting requirements across Europe, partnering with local advisors to assess and implement updates to accounting policies, disclosures, and other technical accounting matters.
  • US GAAP & Corporate Reporting

  • Support the conversion and reconciliation of local GAAP financial information to US GAAP, where applicable.
  • Prepare or review reporting packages submitted to the Corporate Accounting team.
  • Ensure international financial results are appropriately reflected in the company's consolidated financial statements.
  • Assist with technical accounting analysis and the implementation of corporate accounting policies across international entities.
  • Support quarterly and annual corporate reporting requirements.
  • Assist with consolidation activities, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation.
  • Identify differences between local statutory accounting and US GAAP and ensure appropriate adjustments are recorded.
  • Third-Party Accounting Provider Management

  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for third-party accounting firms supporting international entities and manage provider relationships across Europe.
  • Establish clear expectations, timelines, and deliverables for external accounting providers.
  • Review third-party providers' work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies.
  • Hold service providers accountable for close timelines, quality standards, and statutory reporting deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the quality, efficiency, and consistency of outsourced accounting processes, and develop standardized procedures and controls for working with third-party providers.
  • Evaluate outsourced accounting arrangements and recommend process improvements or changes in service delivery.
  • Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals supporting international operations.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to junior and developing accounting team members.
  • Review work performed by junior team members and provide constructive feedback.
  • Establish clear goals, responsibilities, and performance expectations for team members.
  • Develop the team's technical accounting capabilities and create opportunities for junior team members to gain exposure to statutory accounting, US GAAP, financial reporting, and international accounting.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for international accounting matters.
  • Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate international accounting and close processes.
  • Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation.
  • Strengthen internal controls over international accounting and financial reporting.
  • Assist with the development of a consistent global accounting framework across more than 20 subsidiaries.
  • Standardize close procedures, account reconciliations, reporting packages, and supporting documentation across international entities.
  • Help implement scalable accounting processes as the company continues to expand internationally.

  • Prior experience leading, mentoring, or managing accounting professionals.
  • Strong understanding of intercompany accounting and foreign currency accounting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
