The Tally Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all cargo quantities, conditions, and documentation correspond with operational records and customer requirements while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and compliance.\nKey Responsibilities\nCargo Receiving and Dispatch:\nVerify all incoming and outgoing cargo against delivery notes, manifests, packing lists, invoices, and shipping documents.\nCount, record, and reconcile cargo quantities accurately.\nMonitor loading and unloading activities to ensure cargo is handled according to procedures.\nConfirm cargo descriptions, weights, marks, serial numbers, and package counts.\nRecord shortages, overages, damages, and discrepancies immediately.\nEnsure cargo is received and dispatched according to client instructions/SOP.\nTallying and Documentation\nMaintain accurate tally sheets and operational records.\nComplete receiving reports, dispatch reports, stock transfer records, and cargo movement documentation.\nCapture cargo information into manual and electronic systems.\nVerify shipping and transport documentation before cargo release.\nEnsure all records are completed accurately and submitted within required timeframes.\nPrepare daily tally and productivity reports.\nInventory Control\nAssist with stock counting activities.\nVerify inventory balances and report discrepancies.\nMonitor stock movements within warehouses and storage yards.\nEnsure goods are stored in correct locations.\nAssist in investigations relating to inventory variances.\nSupport inventory reconciliation processes.\nWarehouse and Yard Operations\nMonitor cargo movement within the warehouse and yard.\nConfirm correct stacking and storage of cargo.\nEnsure cargo identification labels remain visible and legible.\nCoordinate with forklift operators and warehouse staff regarding cargo movements.\nVerify picking and packing activities against customer orders.\nAssist in cargo hooking, inspections and condition surveys.\nVessel, Container and Port Operations (Where Applicable)\nTally cargo during vessel loading and discharge operations.\nVerify container numbers and seal integrity.\nRecord cargo loaded or discharged from vessels.\nMonitor stevedoring activities and cargo handling performance.\nEnsure cargo movements correspond with manifests and shipping instructions.\nCommunicate discrepancies to supervisors immediately.\nInspect cargo for visible damage.\nRecord damaged cargo and prepare discrepancy reports.\nAssist with cargo investigations and claims processes.\nEnsure compliance with customer quality requirements.\nReport safety and quality concerns immediately.\nHealth and Safety Compliance\nFollow all company safety procedures and site regulations.\nAttend toolbox talks and safety meetings.\nWear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).\nIdentify and report hazardous conditions.\nEnsure safe work practices during cargo handling operations.\nParticipate in incident investigations when required.\nCommunication and Coordination\nLiaise with supervisors, warehouse personnel, drivers, customers, freight forwarders, and stevedores.\nCommunicate cargo discrepancies and operational issues promptly.\nProvide accurate operational updates to management.\nMaintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.\nMinimum Qualifications\nEssential\nGrade 12 (NSSC/NSSCO) or equivalent.\nBasic mathematics and numerical competency.\nGood written and verbal communication skills in English.\nComputer literacy (Microsoft Office).\nAdvantageous\nCertificate in Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, Port Operations, or related field.\nCargo handling training.\nHealth and Safety training.\nValid driver's licence.\nExperience Required\nEssential\nMinimum 2 years' experience in tallying, warehousing, logistics, transport, shipping, cargo handling, or inventory control.\nExperience working with operational documentation.\nExperience handling stock and cargo verification processes.\nPreferred\nExperience in port and terminal operations.\nExperience with containerized cargo.\nExperience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).\nExperience in inventory reconciliation and stock control.\nKnowledge Requirements\nWarehouse operations.\nInventory management principles.\nCargo handling
