{"id":2757643,"url":"https://alion.io/job/aptiv-ecd-mechanical-design-engineer","title":"ECD - Mechanical Design Engineer","company":{"id":5724,"name":"Aptiv","domain":"aptiv.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/aptiv","size_band":"1001-5000","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Workday","truth_index":null},"role":"Industrial Engineering","role_family":"Industrial Engineering","seniority":"senior","employment_type":"full_time","work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Boston, United States"],"countries":["US"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":{"min_usd":91000,"max_usd":172000,"period":"year","method":"role_seniority_country_remote_cell","sample_n":5578},"experience_years_min":5,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-10-16T00:00:00Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-16","last_verified_at":"2026-10-17T04:18:37Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":1,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":1},"description":"ROLE SUMMARY\nThe Mechanical Manufacturing/Tooling Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and sustaining precision fixtures, pallets, and mechanical tooling used in camera manufacturing and active lens alignment processes.\nROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nLens Alignment Pallet & Fixture Design\n·Design, develop, and maintain lens alignment pallets used in active alignment processes\nCreate product-specific fixtures, nests, clamps, carriers, and precision locating systems.\nOptimize fixture designs for repeatability, optical performance, throughput, and manufacturability.\nDevelop tooling concepts for prototype, validation, and production builds.\nSupport design standardization across camera product families.\nExisting Equipment Modification & Sustainment\nDevelop mechanical upgrades and modifications for existing CMAT systems and related manufacturing equipment.\nDesign replacement components for obsolete or unsupported machine elements.\nImprove machine reliability, maintainability, and production efficiency.\nSupport equipment refurbishment and life-extension programs.\nReverse engineer existing assemblies when original documentation is unavailable.\nNew Product Industrialization\n· Design and release fixture solutions for new camera products.\nSupport process development, pilot builds, and product launches.\nCollaborate with Product Engineering to ensure manufacturability requirements are incorporated into product designs.\nLead mechanical design reviews for new manufacturing concepts.\nEngineering Change Management\nGenerate and maintain:\n3D CAD models· \nManufacturing drawings\nAssembly drawings\nBills of Material (BOMs)\nEngineering Change Requests (ECRs)\nManage engineering documentation and revision control.\nEnsure compliance with Aptiv engineering standards.\nSupplier & Manufacturing Support\nWork with external suppliers and machine shops to manufacture fixtures and components.\nSupport supplier technical reviews and design-for-manufacturing activities.\nResolve manufacturing issues related to tooling and fixture designs.\nProvide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and qualification phases.\nTechnical Problem Solving\nInvestigate fixture-related issues impacting quality, yield, or throughput.\nPerform root-cause analysis of mechanical failures.\nImplement corrective and preventive actions.\nSupport continuous improvement and cost reduction project\nYOUR BACKGROUND\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.\n5+ years of mechanical design experience in manufacturing, automation, tooling, or special machinery. \nExperience designing precision fixtures and tooling for production environments. \nExperience supporting automated manufacturing equipment\nAt Aptiv, we deliver innovative solutions that people trust when it matters most.\nProgress is never static.
