The successful candidate for this position will have a strong background in hurricane, flood, and/or tornado modeling and interest in using such models for insured loss estimation.\nThe IntraRisk Group is based in Raleigh, NC. Remote work may be considered for the right candidate.\nWhat you will do as a senior scientist:\nDevelop and use engineering computer codes such as wind/storm surge/wave hazard models and engineering fragility models for wind loading effects.\nProcess and interpret property insurance exposure data for input to HurLoss, ARA’s hurricane catastrophe loss model.\nWork with end users to understand how HurLoss can be used to support their catastrophe modeling needs.\nApply probability and statistics in engineering.\nLead multiple projects and interact with current and prospective clients.\nLead marketing/business development activities in one or more client areas.\nDocument work and write technical reports.\nSenior scientist required skills:\nComprehensive understanding and use of building codes/analysis methods.\nStrong problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills.\nAbility to clearly communicate with collaborators and ask for assistance when needed.\nAttention to detail and desire to learn from mentors.\nStrong self-starter with the ability to pick up new technologies quickly.\nStrong technical writing skills.\nAgility, poise, focus, and communication skills are a must.\nSenior scientist position requirements:\nBachelor’s degree or higher in Civil/Structural Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.\nAt least 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years of experience in catastrophe modeling and property insurance risk modeling. Advanced degree may be considered in partial fulfillment of the experience requirement.\nAt least one course in computer programming and relevant experience in developing computer codes (e.g., FORTRAN, C, C++, and/or Python) for natural hazard risk assessment.\nCandidates selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. \nAbout us:\nARA is an employee-owned scientific and engineering company founded in Albuquerque, NM in 1979.
